Independent electronic artist REYUS is preparing to release his debut album, I’m Listening, a 20-track exploration of creative freedom, personal storytelling, and the diverse influences that have shaped his journey as a producer. The announcement arrives alongside “Around You,” the album’s first single featuring vocalist Alyssa Thomas, offering an early glimpse into a project built around artistic freedom rather than genre boundaries.
Set for release September 25, I’m Listening moves between electronic, house, garage, techno, pop, and rock, reflecting REYUS’ instinct to follow an idea wherever it leads rather than conform to a particular sound. Across the album, energetic club productions sit alongside more introspective compositions, creating a deliberately varied listening experience that mirrors the different sides of his creative identity.
The album also features a series of collaborations with close friends and artists from REYUS’ creative circle, adding another layer of personality to an already expansive project. Across its 20 tracks, I’m Listening explores internal thoughts, anxiety, relationships, human connection, and the importance of paying closer attention to the experiences and emotions that shape everyday life.
“This album represents the kind of artist I wanted to be when I was a kid,” REYUS explains. “Not nailed down to one genre or subgenres, I hope there’s something for everyone, for different moods, for dancing too and some just for listening to, depending on the listener.”
That philosophy is central to the album. Rather than attempting to create a consistent sonic identity from beginning to end, REYUS allows the music to reflect his own changing tastes and emotions.
“I listen to a wide range of music and I create tracks based on what or how I feel when I’m creating them, that’s how I hope this album is received,” he continues. “What I want to write or listen to changes all the time and this album represents that.”
Recorded across studios in Hackney, London, Dorking, and Ibiza, I’m Listening reflects the different environments and experiences that have contributed to REYUS’ development. The album draws inspiration from artists including Four Tet, Jamie xx, Bicep, and Fred again.., while ultimately using those influences as a starting point for something distinctly personal.
For REYUS, that freedom is inseparable from his decision to remain independent.
Based in Dorking, south of London, REYUS began writing music at the age of 10 after being inspired by the late Tim Bergling. Six years later, he performed his first club show, beginning a path that would eventually see him spend nine years developing his sound across the underground under multiple aliases.
That experience eventually led him to launch his own label and company, allowing him to release music independently while retaining ownership of his work and control over his creative direction.
The result is a catalogue that refuses to settle into a predefined genre. Each release offers an opportunity to explore another side of his musical personality, with emotion and experimentation providing the consistent thread between them.
That eclecticism has earned REYUS support from a broad collection of established electronic artists, including Tiësto, Four Tet, Gorgon City, Jamie xx, Bicep, Vintage Culture, Diplo, Solomun, Mau P, and CamelPhat.
His live profile has developed alongside the music. In 2025, his REYUS & Friends headline events took him across the UK and Ibiza, with performances at E1, Studio 338, Ministry of Sound, Café Mambo, 528 Ibiza, and B Club Kensington.
He has also shared lineups with artists including Maceo Plex, Groove Armada, Adriatique, Confidence Man, Basement Jaxx, and Sparrow & Barbossa, further establishing his presence across the international electronic music circuit.
Now, I’m Listening brings those experiences together in one expansive statement. The album is less interested in proving that REYUS can operate across multiple genres than in demonstrating why he refuses to be limited by them in the first place.
With “Around You” featuring Alyssa Thomas introducing the project, I’m Listening represents the next stage of REYUS’ evolution — a debut built on experimentation, emotional honesty, independence, and the freedom to make whatever music feels right in the moment.
