With festivals getting canceled or postponed left and right, it was only a matter of time before EDC Las Vegas 2020 suffered the same fate. Headliners have been anxiously waiting for the reveal so that they could change their plans accordingly. Rumors have been flying around for weeks about when the new dates would be, or if it would happen at all.
Tonight, a source revealed to Billboard that the new dates for EDC Las Vegas 2020 would be the weekend of October 2nd-4th. They also added that the official announcement from Insomniac, who organizes the festival, would happen soon. The event will still take place at the Las Vegas Speedway.
As with any speculation, this source should be taken with a grain of salt. There is another weekend in October that is open for the speedway, and possibly two in September that others have been speculating (though, the speedway looks booked already). With the setup of the festival usually taking up to one month to complete, almost all weekends will have trouble in terms of how many days the crew will have to construct the festival. With so many events happening around the same time, as well, we’re sure Rotella is also looking to pick a weekend that conflicts with the least amount of events.
CEO of the festival, Pasquale Rotella, has been actively communicating with the community about possible changes but wanted to ensure it was perfect before making any announcements. In an Instagram post yesterday, Rotella hinted at the possible reschedule and said that more announcements would be coming later this week. Now, we wait to find if the source is correct.
The postponement is due to the coronavirus epidemic shutting down the majority of the country. Other big festivals such as Bonnaroo and Movement have had to make similar choices. The fate of other big festivals, like Electric Forest, still hangs in the balance.
What will this mean for EDC moving forward? Only time will tell. Rotella has been candid about ensuring refunds would be available to those who could not make the new date, but questions still remain about the lineup, EDC Week, and more. WIth Rotella’s incredible track record, though, we only anticipate he will do whatever it takes to make the festival the best one yet.
