London-based artists Henri Bergmann, Wennink, and Y do I join forces for “Dark Darker,” a driving melodic techno collaboration arriving via Insomniac Records’ Interstellar Recordings imprint. Inspired by George Orwell’s dystopian commentary on surveillance, privacy, and shrinking freedoms, the track pairs peak-time club energy with a darker conceptual edge.
Based in London, Henri Bergmann has built a reputation for constantly reshaping her sound, exploring the space between house, techno, and melodic electronic music. Her productions are marked by an instinct for atmosphere and tension, allowing her to move between emotionally charged melodies and the physical intensity of the dancefloor.
Originally formed as a duo, Y do I has since evolved into a solo project focused on melodic techno and progressive music. His productions balance introspective ideas with peak-time momentum, resulting in tracks designed to carry both emotional weight and physical impact.
Also based in London, Wennink brings a background in both production and songwriting to the collaboration. His distinctive vocal delivery and sharp songwriting have made him a sought-after presence across progressive house and melodic house & techno, with previous releases appearing on influential labels throughout the scene.
On “Dark Darker,” Wennink takes center stage vocally, delivering smooth tenor hooks with a rhythmic, soulful quality. Understated vocal scatting adds another layer to the performance before the arrangement opens into rolling basslines, layered supersaws, and tightly programmed drums. The production steadily builds tension, giving the track the propulsion expected of melodic techno while keeping its lyrical message firmly in focus.
The collaboration also extends an existing creative relationship between Bergmann and Wennink, who are married and previously teamed up on “Secrets Too Soon,” released through Interstellar Recordings last year. Bergmann returned to the label shortly afterward with “Memory Leak,” which has accumulated more than 928,000 streams while receiving radio support from Armin van Buuren, ALOK, Laura van Dam, Pretty Pink, Andrew Rayel, and Volaris.
The release arrives during a particularly active period for Bergmann, who continues to build an increasingly international touring schedule. Her recent and upcoming appearances include eight Ibiza dates this summer, a five-stop headline tour of Argentina, her debut Australia tour, Tomorrowland Thailand, and support dates for ANYMA’s ÆDEN World Tour in Poland, Istanbul, and Ibiza. Her studio work has also included collaborations with Arodes, Layla Benitez, and Be No Rain, with a longer-form project expected to be announced in the coming months.
Y do I brings considerable momentum of his own to the collaboration, with more than 50.4 million streams across his catalog. His previous work includes releases and collaborations with Kevin de Vries, Massano, ARTBAT, and Ruback, as well as “End of Genesys,” his collaboration with Anyma. He is also scheduled to perform for BLINK at Ministry of Sound London.
Meanwhile, Wennink has continued to establish himself across the melodic and progressive spectrum with releases on respected labels including Afterlife, Stil Vor Talent, This Never Happened, Crosstown Rebels, and Watergate.
The concept behind “Dark Darker” began with Wennink revisiting Orwell’s 1984 after learning about the extent of surveillance in the United Kingdom. The experience directly shaped the track’s lyrics and its increasingly ominous atmosphere.
“After reading that the UK is the second most surveilled country in the world, I was immediately compelled to read George Orwell’s ‘Big Brother’ again. I connected with the book more than ever, and the words ‘dark’ and ‘darker’ came up often. I wanted to work them into a lyric that captures the shrinking freedoms and privacies I see happening around me. More verses were written but the first verse I felt worked so well on a repetitive driving loop.”
Once the lyrical foundation was established, the trio focused on creating an instrumental capable of matching the weight of the subject matter.
“Now that the lyrics were written, we began working on the music, but the tricky part was making sure the instrumental fit. Y do I came in and helped give the song that extra strength, making sure it was aggressive enough to evoke the feeling of ‘the boot stamping on the human face,’ to quote ‘Big Brother’.”
With its combination of rolling low-end pressure, supersaw-driven melodies, restrained vocal hooks, and Orwell-inspired subject matter, “Dark Darker” pushes melodic techno beyond pure dancefloor functionality. Henri Bergmann, Wennink, and Y do I use the genre’s tension and physicality to soundtrack a story about surveillance, control, and the erosion of privacy, giving the track a distinctly darker purpose beneath its club-ready momentum.
