After spending more than a decade helping shape New York City’s underground dance music scene, Brooklyn duo Fundido return with their new Melt EP, out now via DJ Tennis’ Life and Death. Arriving after the duo’s Coachella debut and their recent release on James Murphy’s DFA Records, the four-track collection—including remixes from Papa Nugs and Retromigration—marks another significant milestone in a career that has steadily evolved from celebrated DJs and curators into accomplished producers.
Comprised of Latane Hughes and Billy Scher, Fundido channel more than ten years of dancefloor experience into Melt, crafting a release that reflects the sound they’ve refined since emerging from the influential Williamsburg venue Baby’s All Right in 2016. The EP captures the duo’s instinct for balancing emotional storytelling with club-ready energy, translating years behind the decks into richly textured original productions.
Opening the release, “Siren Tiger” gradually builds from dark, brooding grooves before unfolding into an uplifting piano-driven climax, showcasing the duo’s talent for creating patient, emotionally rewarding arrangements. The title track, “Melt,” centers around a memorable piano motif and the ethereal vocals of Emma Dufaux, transforming an accidental musical loop—first discovered during one of Fundido’s iconic New York boat parties—into the emotional heart of the record.
The EP arrives during a defining period for Fundido, whose reputation has long been rooted in their contributions to New York’s thriving underground community. Over the past decade, Latane Hughes and Billy Scher have become respected figures through co-founding the Earth Beat collective, holding residencies at Good Room, and performing at renowned institutions including Making Time, The Lot Radio, Sunday Sunday, Hot Mass, A Club Called Rhonda, and Bar Part Time.
Beyond their DJ careers, the pair have also played an important role in championing emerging music through projects like the Paradise Tempo compilation on Universal Cave, whose sold-out vinyl release earned recognition as one of Resident Advisor’s “Picks of the Week.”
Their transition into original productions has accelerated rapidly throughout 2026. Following the release of “Drops of Time” in January and the acclaimed DFA Records single “Get A Grip” this spring, Fundido have continued to attract support from influential selectors including Erol Alkan, DJ Harvey, Avalon Emerson, and Luke Alessi, further establishing themselves as rising producers within the international electronic music community.
With Melt, Fundido seamlessly merge the community-driven ethos and dancefloor intuition they’ve cultivated over years of DJing into a cohesive and emotionally resonant collection of tracks. Released through the highly respected Life and Death imprint, the EP not only reflects the duo’s artistic evolution but also signals an exciting new chapter for two artists whose influence continues to extend well beyond the booth.
