Renowned dark synthwave producer Das Mörtal is preparing to release “DRAIN ME,” a two-track single arriving September 30, 2026, via Lisbon Lux Records. The release pairs the original track with a remix from synthwave legend Dan Terminus and offers an early glimpse into Das Mörtal’s upcoming mini-album DECVY I, due October 29.
“DRAIN ME” opens with a cinematic, sweeping atmosphere before transitioning into its opening chord and quickly building momentum. A fast-paced, techno-inspired rhythm section drives an arpeggiated synth pluck as the production develops into a fully realized dark synthwave track. Heavy sidechain compression and Das Mörtal’s washed-out vocals carry the song forward before the arrangement breaks down into half-time drums.
The track then rebuilds toward a booming final chorus, balancing hypnotic synths, heavy beats, and a dystopian atmosphere. Beneath its dark production, “DRAIN ME” explores themes of obsession, exhaustion, and emotional decay.
Das Mörtal describes the track as “a track about the feeling of running in circles in the health care system while being drained from the multiple tests one person might go through.”
The single’s remix comes from Dan Terminus, widely regarded as one of the Four Horsemen of Synthwave alongside Perturbator, Carpenter Brut, and GosT. His interpretation takes “DRAIN ME” in a more glitch-heavy direction, chopping and manipulating Das Mörtal’s vocals into fragmented textures while combining booming acoustic and synthesized bass elements.
Punchy percussion and occasional violin lines add another layer to the remix, giving Dan Terminus’ reimagining a dynamic character while maintaining the darker atmosphere of the original.
The two versions of “DRAIN ME” arrive ahead of DECVY I, the next chapter in Das Mörtal’s growing catalog. Now based in Montréal, the producer’s musical journey began in Berlin, where he developed influences ranging from Steve Moore and Aphex Twin to German techno and horror and science-fiction soundtracks.
That combination has helped shape Das Mörtal’s signature dark and nostalgic sound, which draws from techno, occult electro, and Italo disco. His music has accumulated more than 31.4 million streams on Spotify, while receiving support from radio, media, and influential playlists including Retrowave // Outrun and Darkwave.
