Fresh off the release of her collaborative single “Sundown” with Baby Weight, legendary West Coast house producer and LGBTQ+ icon Mz Worthy returns to Walker & Royce’s Rules Don’t Apply Records with her latest solo release, “Higher & Higher,” arriving May 29. Timed perfectly for Pride Month, the new single further cements her status as one of underground dance music’s most influential and enduring figures.
Built around a thick rolling groove, punchy drums, and hypnotic vocal chops, “Higher & Higher” is designed for peak-time dancefloor moments. The track captures the unmistakable energy that has defined Mz Worthy’s career, balancing raw underground house sensibilities with an uplifting, euphoric progression that never sacrifices its edge.
Speaking about the release, Mz Worthy shared:
“I wanted to create something special for the dance floor – for that moment in the night where it feels like the energy in the room couldn’t possibly get any higher. The second I stumbled onto the vocal sample, I knew I had something special to build around. Once the big rolling bassline dropped in, everything just started to lock together naturally. The whole track came alive from there.”
The release arrives during a particularly exciting chapter for the San Francisco-based artist. Earlier this year, she teamed up with Baby Weight for the long-awaited collaboration “Sundown” on Rules Don’t Apply, a meeting of two longtime friends and LGBTQ+ advocates that earned praise for its emotional depth and club-ready energy. More recently, Mz Worthy appeared on VNSSA’s latest album with the collaboration “The One,” featuring Dominique Gomez, continuing a run of high-profile releases and collaborations.
A pioneering force within the West Coast house movement, Mz Worthy played an important role in the early development of San Francisco’s influential Dirtybird community alongside Claude VonStroke and the Martin Brothers. Throughout her career, she has built a reputation for fearless productions and electrifying performances while releasing music on respected imprints including Defected, Toolroom, and Insomniac Records.
Beyond her contributions to dance music, Mz Worthy has become an important advocate for LGBTQ+ visibility within the electronic music community. After publicly coming out as transgender in 2020 following years of experiencing gender dysphoria, she has used her platform to encourage authenticity, self-expression, and inclusion throughout the scene. She has also remained dedicated to mentoring emerging artists through youth songwriting programs and community advocacy initiatives.
Her momentum continues into the summer with appearances scheduled at the newly announced Dirtybird Campout x Northern Nights Music Festival collaboration event, along with performances surrounding San Francisco Pride, providing an especially meaningful backdrop for an artist whose impact reaches far beyond the DJ booth.
With “Higher & Higher,” Mz Worthy delivers another powerful addition to her catalog, showcasing the creativity, resilience, and underground spirit that have made her one of house music’s most respected and influential voices. The single arrives as both a celebration of community and a reminder of why Mz Worthy remains a driving force in electronic music culture.
