I have a deep love for discovering new artists and learning about their stories. Chris Gavino who has become known as Manila Killa is a recent favorite of mine. He was born in the United States in 1993 however, when he was younger his family moved continuously raising him all over the world. While spending time in the Philippines he started teaching himself how to use an Ableton machine. The love connection was made right then and there. After some time working with musical duo, Hotel Garuda he made a decision to separate and focus on a solo career.
In the past, Gavino has hosted large stages at festivals such as HARD Summer, Ultra Miami, Holy Ship, and making a return to Electric Forest this year. In February of 2019, Manila Killa released his first solo EP, 1993. The premise of 1993 is him showcasing his cultural roots and life journey to the current day. This week he kicked off his national headlining tour in Washington, DC with stops across the US. For this tour, he teamed up with his cousin Mark Gavino to choreograph a visual rendition of his single “ATypical” (Featuring GiGi) performed by The DayOne Project dance crew- Selected cities only. Fortunately for me, this weekend he will be stopping in Los Angeles at The Novo in Downtown. The show is 18+ with tickets still available for purchase. So if you did not have plans before, you do now! You can check out the full list of tour dates below.
