Breakthrough electronic artist BrokinPaper has released his new full-length album, FUNCTION OVER FORM, marking the culmination of a breakout year that has seen the independent producer move from NYC’s underground electronic scene into the worlds of luxury fashion, contemporary art, television, and global dance music. That trajectory has included multiple invitations from Gucci Creative Director Demna to perform at Gucci’s afterparties, from Berlin Gallery Weekend to the Gucci Cruise Afterparty in New York, as well as recognition as Billboard’s Rookie Artist of the Month.
Across seven tracks, FUNCTION OVER FORM distills the sound BrokinPaper has been developing throughout his career: dark, stripped-back electronic music built around industrial textures, heavy bass, UK garage influences, electro, breakbeat, and deep techno. The album moves between high-octane warehouse tracks and more restrained, atmospheric moments, creating a world that feels equally at home in an underground club, a late-night drive, or a runway event with Gucci.
“Working on FUNCTION OVER FORM gave me the chance to explore the sounds I’ve been most excited by in a live setting. As I’ve embraced a more free-form approach to DJing, that energy has shaped the record—each track is intentionally designed to move within a set and to help make unexpected moments on the dancefloor feel unforgettable,” says BrokinPaper.
The album kicks off with “Damage,” a brooding, bass-heavy introduction that leans into distorted textures and warehouse-ready energy. “Malice” follows with choppy percussion, futuristic textures, and a relentless bassline, trading excess for precision. Then comes “SUBVERSIVE.” Inspired by BrokinPaper’s time in Berlin, the track channels deep techno, heavy bass, groove, electro, and breakbeat. The title also references a concept familiar within fashion: taking an everyday garment or object and altering its shape and function into something unexpected. The track captures that same impulse sonically, bending familiar club sounds into something more unconventional.
Halfway in appears “Antidote Remix,” a reimagining of Minsk-based artist Jenasi’s original track. Built around haunting UK-inspired vocals, distorted synth work, and relentless percussion, BrokinPaper’s version accelerates the original into a high-speed collision of UK garage, industrial techno, and electro-punk, inspired by the sounds of Eastern Europe akin to artists like Locked Club.
Beginning with minimal production before gradually building in confidence and sensuality, “Berlin” is designed to work at any point in the night. Its title pays tribute to the city that became an unexpected catalyst for BrokinPaper’s rapid cultural trajectory. “Exhaust” shifts into driving techno territory, pairing relentless four-on-the-floor momentum with an electro-punk edge that refuses to let up. Closing the album is “Desolation,” an industrial, Rezz-esque gut-punch that trades the genre’s usual mellow send-off for something that hits harder than anything before it.
The creative alias of Asian-American producer Harrison Lee, BrokinPaper has also earned acclaim from industry heavyweight Timbaland, a feature in ZARA’s global fashion campaign, and a DJ mix for Rezz’s HypnoVizion on Apple Music. BrokinPaper was also named Beatport’s Emerging Artist of the Month for July 2026, further recognizing the momentum surrounding his independent project.
With FUNCTION OVER FORM, BrokinPaper cements a trajectory nearly unheard of in today’s music industry—an artist who has built a global following and major brand endorsements entirely on his own terms, without a label behind him.
