#WCW | Amelie Lens | Techno’s Rising Star

Amelie Lens is a true force in Techno. A powerhouse performer and exceptional DJ and producer, she only gets better by the day. She tours nonstop and if you haven’t had a chance to check her out, there is no better place than the largest Techno festival in the U.S., Movement. She is unstoppable and that is why she tops my list of amazing women DJs, and is Fresh Music Freaks Women Crush Wednesday, Movement Edition.  

Amelie embodies what true determination is. She didn’t grow up easy going and carefree. She has been through a lot and has seen many hardships in her life. She lost her mother at an early age and was shuffled back and forth between relatives before finding a permanent home with her beloved grandmother. She has worked hard to get where she is. Amelie makes sure she lives each day to the fullest and takes advantage of every opportunity she is given. This dedication and precision to her craft are phenomenal. She is hypnotizing behind the decks; the dark, dramatic, throbbing beats are intense.

After discovering Techno as a teenager Amelie instantly fell in love. She became consumed with the music and would sneak out of the house to attend shows. She also got the opportunity during this time to become a model and help bring in income for her and her grandmother. Having to juggle a modeling career and her ambition for music wasn’t an easy feat. She still dedicated every free minute she had to attend a show or festival to get her music fix.

She soon gave up her modeling career to DJ and produce full time. Amelie was quickly earning a reputation for her dark, deep, and high energy sets. Her hard work paid off and was able to start a residency at Labyrinth Club in Belgium which helped refine her skills. Amelie is a self-proclaimed perfectionist and it really comes through in her sets. She plays to the crowd and is having a blast while she is performing.

Amelie is on a roll and is touring all over the globe. She is so in-demand she came in number two for playing the most festivals in 2018, only to be beat out by fellow techno queen Nina Kraviz. I am super pumped to catch Amelie in Detroit for Movement. The atmosphere at this festival can’t be beat. The vibe, the energy, and the crowd are truly one of a kind. And to be able to hear her set in Detroit at Movement will be outstanding.

Your Techno adventure starts Memorial Day weekend, May 24th through 27th at Hart Plaza in Detroit. Tickets for the event are still on sale so get them while you can! You can catch Amelie Lens along with a host of other outstanding Techno artists. We are less than a month out and I am counting down the days until Movement and I CANNOT WAIT!
