So yeah, let us talk about this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday.
Her name?
Naughty Princess (real name Jasmine Fraser), and she has been on my radar since hearing her play for the first time at Northern Nights Music Festival in July of 2017. The set she put together on the riverfront was nothing short of absolutely diabolical. Darkly twisted beats with vocals strewn about and just the right amount “come hither while I fuck with your Mind.” I was hooked and I wanted more. So I will just say her name may be “Princess” but…she is a Fucking Queen, downright royalty when it comes to that dirty bass music.
So who is she you ask…?
She is Australian, She is an LA Native, she is vocals, she is dirty beats, she is light, she is dark and she is oh so very naughty. Wait, hold up….Get your mind out of the gutter readers “naughty” is so much more than you’re thinking… I’ll explain.
What you might not know is Jasmine grew up influenced by traditional Indian music and was inspired by intricate Tabla beats and soaring vocals. She submerged herself in the electronic music scene in Melbourne when it took off, and her passion for dance was ignited. Love for the nasty low end put her in the pilot seat.
In 2009, Jasmine relocated from Australia to San Francisco and that’s when things really started to come into focus for the bass princess (remember though…She is a Queen). Dropping those low-end dubs and mood setting vocals became her signature sound. But don’t get it twisted, she is really versatile too. Her sets weave their way through driving basslines that are overlaid with a diverse range of beats… she’ll give you some of those tasty trap twerks and blend into hip hop. You’re sure to hear urban styles and gangsta grooves, with melodies and lyrics soaring through it all. Naughty Princess brings the sacred, the saucy and the sublime all together in a way that is un-fucking-real.
And you don’t have to take my word for it… Naughty Princess’ Festival appearances speak for themselves. Oregon Eclipse Festival ( That set was fucking sick!), Lightning in a Bottle Festival, Northern Nights Festival, Enchanted Forest Gathering, One Love Festival, How Weird Street Fair, Abundance LA, Belasco Theatre LA, Dirty Beetles Black & Gold Ball, Ecstatic Dance, Soundpieces Afterburn, Wormhole and all over Burning Man including Camp Questionmark and Abraxas Art Car. And these are not including the East Coast tour she wrapped up last year or the absolute destruction she brought to Portland-based Promotions Tribe Living Prism’s New Years Party Re:New, that she headlined with Thriftworks.
There’s more…While you listen to her mixes and become familiar with her sound, you can salivate on the notion that she is diving head first into production. Naughty Princess is tight-lipped about what is coming down the line but, I personally cannot wait to hear where her original sound takes me. If it’s anything like her sets…fuck…watch out.
