After years spent working behind the scenes across electronic and independent music, Silverman is returning to his creative roots with ‘Every Step,’ a warm, cinematic single that blends sample-based production, hip-hop rhythms, and late-night jazz influences. With experience spanning influential labels such as Warp, Sony, Def Jux, and !K7, as well as work involving artists including Diplo, Mr Scruff, Nightmares On Wax, Skream, and Example, his return to making music brings decades of industry experience into a more personal project.
Released under the Silver Man name, ‘Every Step’ is built around rich instrumentation and an organic atmosphere. Strings and piano intertwine with brushed drums, trumpet, and horns, while subtle vinyl crackle adds warmth and texture. The production draws on the looseness of jazz and the rhythmic sensibilities of hip-hop, creating a sound that feels both carefully assembled and naturally expressive.
Despite being made entirely through sampling and programming, Silverman wanted the track to capture the feeling of musicians playing together in the same room. Rather than polishing away every imperfection, he embraces the subtle movements and human qualities that give a live recording its character. The result is a production that feels intimate and lived-in, with its individual elements working together to create a cohesive musical experience.
That balance between electronic production and human expression reflects influences that have followed Silverman throughout his life. Growing up in Manchester during the 1980s, he was shaped by the city’s musical culture, including The Haçienda, The Stone Roses, and The Smiths. Those formative experiences helped establish a broad musical perspective that continues to inform his work today.
His current influences extend across generations and styles, from Fred again.. and DJ Shadow to Bonobo, Burial, and Bicep. These varied reference points reflect an approach to music that prioritizes atmosphere, rhythm, and emotional connection over rigid genre boundaries.
Following his previous single ‘Paint Me In Gold,’ ‘Every Step’ continues to establish the direction of the Silver Man project. For an artist who has spent much of his career helping bring other people’s music to audiences, the project offers a more direct outlet for his own creative instincts. Drawing on a lifetime of musical discovery and professional experience, Silverman is now channeling those influences into work that feels distinctly personal.
