Alright, fellow melodic fans, please don’t shoot me but I have a confession to make. When I first discovered Dabin…I really wasn’t that much of a fan. It wasn’t that I found his music appalling by any means, but I shrugged him off. I didn’t keep him on my radar. Look, it’s not something I’m proud of, ok?
Fellow ravers and friends exposed me to Dabin back in 2017, and I saw him for the first time on the ILLENIUM “Awake” tour that December. Nick Miller was the only reason I was going to that show, and my crew was there at doors to run straight to the rail. The show was as beautiful as I thought it was going to be, and I actually really did enjoy Dabin‘s set. I even got the opportunity for a quick photo after the event and told him I was very impressed by his guitar skills.
However, at the time I was so balls-deep in Illenium’s music that I was blinded to listening to pretty much anything else. I had just discovered the best Melodic Dub and Future Bass musician of all time, there was no way that anyone else’s music could ever touch me in a similar way. Or, so I thought.
In comes my (now) boyfriend, Chan. Chan was the first one who showed me Illenium and has been a huge fan of all melodic music for the last half-decade. Over the years he’s sent me more artists than I can count, exposing me to the other top-tier artists like Said the Sky all the way to lesser-known, yet equally beautiful, producers like Skrux.
When Dabin’s “Wild Youth” album came out in March of 2019, Chan pushed and pushed for me to listen. He swore up and down that I was going to fall in love with Dabin just as much as I liked the rest of these artists. Fine fine, I’d listen. My lord, was he right. “Wild Youth” captured my attention in a stunning way. Dabin is a genius on the guitar and can string together melodies that touch your soul. “Part-Time Lover” was my favorite single on it because anything I can belt out (quite terribly, to be honest) is A+ in my book. I had the album on repeat for weeks.
When Dabin then went on tour that spring, I was a bit disappointed because there wasn’t a single stop that was close to me. No worries, I thought to myself, I go to so many festivals I’ll have to seem him eventually, right? In comes Lost Lands 2019. Dabin was on the lineup, score! He did a back to back with Said the Sky, which in every way, shape and form was absolutely beautiful. I was still longing, though, to still see Dabin perform in all his glory on stage, by himself, blending in perfect harmony every tune he created.
The “Into the Wild” tour was announced on January 15th of this year, and you can only imagine my excitement when I found out he was coming back to my favorite venue in my local area, the Norva, and bringing along with him another beloved artist of mine, Nurko. Being the psycho melodic #sadgirl I am, when I also noticed that Trivecta was joining the Washington D.C. stop, I jumped on that ticket as well. I’m finally going to get to see Dabin, the artist I have come to adore so much, twice!
Dabin recently tweeted out that he was featuring more original music during these sets than ever before. I personally have always really appreciated this of any artist, even if it is someone I’m not a fan of. A producer should be comfortable featuring out their art to the crowd, and not feel pressured to always mix-in the top EDM songs of their genre. I can’t wait to experience the songs that he created for his fans and sing-along with the others in Dabin’s Sanctuary crew. I’m most looking forward to hearing “Holding On”, a new single released on the same day as his tour announcement.
The “Into the Wild” tour has a total of 27 stops across the U.S., beginning on March 20th in Denver, Colorado and ending on April 26th in Tampa, Florida. Tickets are still available online, so don’t miss out on your chance to let Dabin pull on your heartstrings. Otherwise, you’ll be regretting getting to know his music sooner as I did.
