RIOT return to NGHTMRE and SLANDER‘s Gud Vibrations with The Machine (Remixes), an 11-track reimagining of their acclaimed sophomore album that enlists some of bass music’s most innovative producers to reinterpret the duo’s cinematic, metal-infused sound. Released as the official remix companion to 2025’s The Machine, the collection features fresh takes from Afinity, Dodge & Fuski, Hi I’m Ghost, CELO, Jacknife, VLCN, OSSIEN, Dirt Monkey, Hekler, Baclash, and SPAG.
The Los Angeles-based duo have built a reputation for fusing crushing dubstep with metal influences and cinematic world-building, a signature style showcased throughout their 15-track original album released via Gud Vibrations last August. With The Machine (Remixes), those songs are transformed through a diverse range of bass music styles while maintaining the energy that has become synonymous with RIOT.
Leading the project is SPAG—the Dutch-born, Barcelona-based producer formerly known as Spag Heddy—who delivers a fresh interpretation of “Try Again.” Slowing the tempo while preserving the track’s intensity, his remix layers futuristic glitch textures, laser-like synths, intricate sound design, swinging rhythms, and chopped vocal elements into a dynamic new version of one of the album’s standout records.
The remix album opens with Afinity‘s euphoric rework of “Back To Back,” blending melodic future bass elements with soaring vocals before transitioning into Dodge & Fuski‘s explosive dubstep reinterpretation of “Everynight.”
Hi I’m Ghost injects “Hurricane” with cinematic orchestral flourishes and thunderous bass, while CELO transforms “Click Clack” into a genre-blending production that shifts seamlessly between hip-hop grooves and crushing dubstep drops.
Elsewhere, Jacknife reimagines “Deadshot” with his signature wobbling basslines, while VLCN crafts an atmospheric and trap-infused version of “March of the Machine.” OSSIEN brings futuristic melodic bass to “Alien Threat,” Dirt Monkey delivers a groove-heavy remix of “Get Down,” and Hekler pushes “Nebula” into even heavier territory with swung percussion and aggressive laser-like bass design.
The album concludes with Baclash‘s remix of “Slide,” which blends halftime rhythms, hip-hop influences, and explosive drops into one of the project’s most emotionally driven reinterpretations.
Several contributors reflected on the opportunity to remix the project. Afinity described his version of “Back To Back” as “a playable riddim brostep combination,” while SPAG called the chance to remix “Try Again” particularly meaningful as a longtime fan of RIOT.
Hi I’m Ghost shared that remixing “Hurricane” was “an honor,” explaining that they enjoyed incorporating orchestral elements into the already powerful original. CELO emphasized preserving the energy of “Click Clack” while adding his own heavier production style, and Jacknife celebrated returning to Gud Vibrations with another release.
VLCN highlighted the fusion of heavy trap verses and aggressive drops in his take on “March of the Machine,” while OSSIEN described RIOT as a major influence and called his remix a tribute through symphonic dubstep. Dirt Monkey added that he immediately accepted the opportunity after hearing the original track.
For Hekler, remixing “Nebula” became an opportunity to showcase his current sound while honoring what made the original stand out. Meanwhile, Baclash reflected on the full-circle moment of releasing on Gud Vibrations, recalling that watching NGHTMRE and SLANDER inspired him to attend Icon Collective more than a decade ago. He also revealed that having witnessed portions of The Machine being created made contributing to the remix album especially meaningful, describing “Slide” as one of the most rewarding remix challenges of his career.
The release follows continued success for the original album, including more than 633,000 streams for “Try Again” and widespread support from electronic music media. It also arrives as RIOT embark on their expansive The Machine World Tour, a 30-plus-date run featuring performances at Nocturnal Wonderland, Electric Forest, Lost Lands, Blacklist Festival, KN?WHERE Festival, and headline appearances across North America.
