After months of building anticipation from the dancefloor, Dutch producer Mesto and genre-defying songwriter and artist INK have officially released “Freak” via John Summit’s Experts Only. Dark, seductive and deliberately hypnotic, the tech house collaboration has already become a standout in John Summit’s sets, with additional support from ZEDD, Alok and Martin Garrix helping fuel anticipation for its official release.
“Freak” doesn’t rush toward its payoff. Instead, the track gradually pulls listeners deeper into its world through a persistent pulse, futuristic synths and a vocal centered on attraction and surrendering to the moment. Lines such as “I feel the frequency signal” and “It’s like our worlds colliding” reinforce the track’s sense of connection, while repeated vocal phrases create an increasingly hypnotic atmosphere.
As the production develops, each element adds another layer of tension. The futuristic textures and steady groove give “Freak” a sleek, almost otherworldly quality, while its underlying rhythm keeps the record firmly planted on the dancefloor. The result is a slow-burning club track built less around a single explosive moment than the feeling of being completely absorbed by the groove.
For Mesto, the idea began far away from a traditional studio environment. While staying in Los Angeles, the producer found himself putting together the first version of the track in a hotel room.
“I feel like the craziest songs usually start outside the studio – at least that’s when inspiration really strikes for me. That was definitely the case with this new one, ‘Freak’. I made the first idea in a hotel room in LA, and it felt like the song already existed in my head: I just had to get it out.”
The track quickly made its way from that initial idea to the festival circuit. John Summit premiered an early version at Ultra Miami before continuing to play it throughout the summer. The record also found support from Dom Dolla, Martin Garrix, ZEDD and Alok, giving “Freak” a significant presence before it even had an official release.
The final piece came together when INK joined the record. Her topline brought another dimension to the production, giving the track a vocal identity that matched its futuristic atmosphere and seductive tension.
“That same week, John Summit premiered the first version at Ultra Miami and kept playing it throughout the summer, alongside big names like Dom Dolla, Garrix, Zedd and Alok.”

The collaboration arrives during a new creative chapter for Mesto, who has spent more than a decade developing his sound across clubs, festivals and international airwaves. Breaking through at a young age, the Dutch producer established himself through major performances, high-profile collaborations and releases that have accumulated millions of streams.
With “Freak,” he continues exploring a darker and more club-focused direction, allowing the production to develop through atmosphere and tension while leaving plenty of space for the vocal to drive the track’s emotional center.
INK brings an equally distinctive history to the collaboration. The genre-defying artist and songwriter has contributed to some of the biggest projects in contemporary music, including Beyoncé’s GRAMMY Award-winning albums COWBOY CARTER and RENAISSANCE, as well as Kendrick Lamar’s GNX.
Her work on “Luther” helped produce a multi-week No. 1 hit, earning INK three nominations at the 2026 GRAMMY Awards for Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year. She ultimately took home her first GRAMMY for Record of the Year.
That background makes her contribution to “Freak” particularly striking. Rather than treating the vocal as an accessory to the production, the collaboration gives INK room to shape the track’s identity, matching the futuristic soundscape with a performance that feels intimate, sensual and increasingly obsessive.
Now officially out through Experts Only, “Freak” captures the point where a spontaneous hotel-room idea, a festival-tested production and a distinctive vocal performance come together. What began as a track that existed only in Mesto’s head has already traveled through some of the biggest sets in electronic music—and now it’s ready to take over dancefloors everywhere.
