Daniel Goldstein, better known as Lane 8, has been producing oddly soothing, yet quirky Deep House and Trance tracks for almost eight years now. He’s kicked off the new decade with a brand new album, “Brightest Lights“, released under his very own label, This Never Happened. This is his junior effort and it is a sparkling example of what a creative and unique artist Daniel has grown to be. While he stays true to his widely recognized and delicately curated sound, Brightest Lights brings a gentle sense of maturity that is a wonderful sign of an artist’s growth. For existing Lane 8 fans this album is a collection of everything we love about his music. He’s the master of subtle power and there are countless examples of this throughout this album. I’ve had the pleasure of following his career since 2015 where he has gone from playing small side stages to owning a flourishing production company full of heart and meaning.
In preparation for his third album, Lane 8 released six singles between late September and the end of 2019. The first was the title track “Brightest Lights” which is a beautifully crafted seven-minute track that I’ve grown attached to for its emotion-evoking lyrics. With this single release, we were given the full album announcement and a snippet of his intentions behind this work. An album centered around positive light is what he had in mind and I feel he has achieved that and more. In October the second single from the album “Sunday Song” brought upbeat and relaxing energy, reflecting the light Daniel is aiming to capture with his work. He continued to share a new single every few weeks through the remainder of the year. Lane 8 picked the perfect tracks that highlight the dynamic package it delivers ahead of its release. He even gave us a New Year’s Eve single, “Just”, to tide us over until his full album dropped ten days later. Finally, on January 10th the full album debuted, giving us the grand view of “Brightest Lights”.
There is clear intention behind every track and its placement within the album. While they could each stand alone, Lane 8 has also managed to create a cohesive experience from the first song to the very end. He delivers an enticing progression that draws the listener in. Soon, it’s difficult to realize you’ve transitioned to a new song because he’s created such an engaging storyline. The first three tracks “Groundhog Day”, “Road”, and “Just” are the perfect introduction before the title track “Brightest Lights”, a partnership effort with POLIÇA. The energy moves into “Shooting Arrows”, a delightfully bouncy track in the midst of this smooth album. Finally, Lane 8 closes with “The Rope”, yet another joint production with POLIÇA that brings the same comfortable vocals we have come to know. It encompasses exactly what he set out to accomplish with this collection. I resonate with the lyrics “You make me happy and that’s hard to do” as I have discovered over the years how important it is to value those relationships in our lives that make us feel truly alive. Lane 8 uses his subtlety to build deep layers in his music yielding natural energy that grows throughout the album to a fulfilling end.
As an artist, Lane 8 is humble and shows appreciation for his fan base in unique and valuable ways. As his popularity has grown over the years an official Facebook fan group has been established, fondly named This Fan Club Never Happened. Since it’s inception, he’s shared exciting opportunities and offered early access to the album. Outside of social media, Lane 8 started his own fan appreciation club where he sends surprises and limited edition items to those that participate. Daniel has genuine intentions, from his music production to the way he interacts with his loyal fan base. He has set a high standard in the EDM world when it comes to producing music packed with substance.
Per the norm, Lane 8 has announced the Brightest Lights tour to go along with his new album release. He is planning to hit much of the US, a few stops through Canada and even some UK stops. The tour is scheduled to the beginning of June so I’m excited to see what festival lineups he pops up on for the summer months. As you can see below, a handful of stops have already sold out and I anticipate many more will follow suit.
