JVNA is returning to the sound that first defined her with “Gravity,” a melodic bass single that serves as the first preview of her upcoming EP, “Violet Genesis,” due next month. Built entirely around her own voice, the track explores the experience of standing beside someone as their world falls apart and trying to guide them back toward hope.
The emotional weight of “Gravity” comes through without becoming overly sentimental. Its production builds gradually, allowing JVNA’s vocal to remain close and unforced before the track eventually reaches its release. “Gravity is about being there for someone throughout their dark times. Standing by someone’s side when their world feels like it’s falling apart… it’s about pulling someone out of their heaviest moments and wanting to show them hope and joy again,” JVNA says.
Born in Los Angeles to Taiwanese parents, JVNA developed a relationship with music from an early age. She began studying classical piano at six before continuing her education at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where her studies expanded into film and game scoring.
Those foundations helped shape the cinematic quality that continues to run through her work. Inspired by anime and gaming, JVNA began creating remixes that eventually went viral, helping her build an audience around her distinctive blend of electronic music, pop, and atmospheric soundscapes.
Her relationship with that audience became particularly important through her work as a Twitch streamer. Her community helped crowdfund her first music video, “I’m With You,” raising $1,000 for the self-directed project. The video became a personal tribute to her late father and marked an important step in JVNA’s development as an independent, multifaceted artist.
Her debut album, “Hope In Chaos,” arrived in 2021, exploring themes of loss and resilience before leading to a successful North American tour. In 2023, she followed it with “Play With You,” embracing a darker and more magnetic side of her artistry while exploring feminine empowerment and the process of reclaiming personal strength.
Throughout her career, JVNA has transformed personal experiences into music that balances vulnerability with power. With “Gravity” and the upcoming “Violet Genesis,” she is now turning back toward the ethereal and nostalgic sound of her beginnings, reshaping it through everything she has learned since.
