German electronic music producer INNELLEA returns to his melodic roots with “Reckless 69,” a new single released October 16 through his own belonging imprint. Accompanied by a short film titled Reckless: The Movie, the release continues the artist’s recent exploration of electronic music culture, industry expectations, and the pressure to maintain an identity in an increasingly image-driven scene.
Musically, “Reckless 69” marks a shift toward the trance influences that helped shape INNELLEA’s sound. The track is faster, brighter, and more carefree than some of his recent productions, offering a fresh perspective on the melodic foundations of his music without attempting to recreate the past. Its lighter energy also reflects a willingness to step outside the expectations that often surround established electronic artists.
The single follows “Slave to the Hype” and “Bounce Music,” two releases that approached the electronic music scene with a more direct, humorous perspective. Rather than chasing trends or conforming to a particular sound, INNELLEA uses these tracks to challenge the conventions of the industry while allowing himself to experiment with a less serious persona.
That approach extends into Reckless: The Movie, a short film initially created as a complete piece for YouTube before being divided into episodes for the wider social media campaign. Featuring an exploding scooter, a ghettoblaster, and a fake tattoo, the film embraces absurdity while exploring the relationship between authenticity, image, and performance in electronic music.
The humor targets familiar industry stereotypes, including manufactured artist personas, expectations surrounding masculinity, and the constant pressure to remain relevant. The project also turns the spotlight toward the audience, acknowledging that everyone who participates in electronic music culture plays a role in shaping its identity.
Behind the comedy is a more personal turning point in INNELLEA’s career. Earlier this year, the producer openly admitted, “I am stuck.” He subsequently wiped his social media feeds, stepped away from performances, and took time away from the pressures surrounding his career. In a scene that often rewards constant output and visibility, the decision to pause became an important part of his creative reset.
After more than a decade performing on major stages and developing his own musical identity, INNELLEA began approaching the industry from a different perspective. The character and visual campaign surrounding “Slave to the Hype” and “Bounce Music” gave him room to question the expectations attached to his position while using humor to examine the culture in which he has built his career.
The result is a project that balances satire with genuine self-reflection. Rather than distancing himself from electronic music, INNELLEA uses his latest work to engage with its conventions, challenge its assumptions, and find new ways to express himself within it.
With “Reckless 69,” that shift is reflected in the music as much as the visuals. The return to trance and melody reconnects INNELLEA with the sounds that shaped his artistic identity, while the track’s faster pace and carefree energy signal a willingness to move forward without being confined by his past work.
Released October 16 via belonging, “Reckless 69” arrives five days before Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE), where the full Reckless: The Movie short film is scheduled to screen during the conference. Together, the single and film continue a new chapter for INNELLEA, one that combines musical rediscovery with a more playful and critical look at the world surrounding electronic music.
