With festival season upon us and the announcements rolling in, many Houstonians are wondering if a second In Bloom Festival is happening? The descendant of the Free Press Summer Fest had its inaugural show last March and with its mildly successful attendance and ties to the Free Press scandal that rocked the Day for Night Fest, many are curious about the future of the festival. If the festival is indeed going to happen in March as it did last year, wouldn’t there be a lineup and ticket link already? I mean, it is mid-January and festival planning should be in motion!
Last year’s In Bloom fest boasted headliners such as Beck, Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus, and weather that couldn’t be any more perfect (well in Houston terms of breezy, non-humid ickyness). As we know all too well, Houston festivals can be hit or miss. Mother Nature can be your worst enemy with outdoor events. The festival was located in Eleanor Tinsley Park where a majority of the Free Press Summer Fest shows were held in the heart of downtown Houston. The location was ideal with the downtown skyline in the distance, a grassy area to lounge, and trees to offer some shade. The crowd size was just right with enough space to stretch out and enjoy the show. The stage set-up was similar to past Free Press Summer Fest shows with four stages instead of the 6 FPSF offered. It was also great to see a mixed crowd at the show from the Gen-X music lovers to the younger fans!
Hopefully, we will see a second edition of In Bloom. The Houston community is always supportive of new and innovative festivals. Houstonians love music, food, and culture and are always willing to give another festival a chance at making some magic.
