New York- and London-based alt-pop artist I’MMORTAL is embracing the darker side of electronic music with her new single, SWAMP MONSTER, arriving October 2, 2026, via Immortality. Combining heavy electronic production, eerie vocals and an experimental edge, the track turns unconventional identity into a source of power just in time for Halloween.
I’MMORTAL first entered the digital music world in August 2023 with her debut tech-house single, Versace Spaceship. Since then, she has built a growing catalog of releases that have collected more than half a million streams on Spotify alone while earning attention from Rolling Stone UK, Electronic Groove, DJ Mag Spain, YourEDM, CLASH Magazine, NOTION, KALTBLUT Magazine, EARMILK, METAL Magazine and Wonderland Magazine.
Her music has also attracted a number of notable remixes. Her eerie single KILLED U IN A DREAM was reworked by biskuwi and Droid Bishop, while her glitch-heavy track Uncanny Valley received a darksynth version from Das Mörtal that earned support from NPR Music.
Originally from California, I’MMORTAL spent her childhood and teenage years playing violin in orchestras. That early experience helped develop the composition skills that would eventually become an important part of her approach to music production. Her background in theater also introduced her to singing through high school musicals.
While her musical foundation includes classical music, I’MMORTAL has long been drawn to electronic music, particularly its gritty basslines and synthetic textures. Her audio-visual synesthesia further shapes her creative process, allowing sound and imagery to naturally intersect throughout her work.
That visual identity frequently explores death and rebirth, the natural world versus artificial constructs, femininity and her AAPI identity. Her musical influences include Sevdaliza, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey and Björk, helping inform an aesthetic that moves between pop, electronic music and stranger experimental territory.
SWAMP MONSTER pushes that approach into especially rowdy territory. A gnarly electronic bassline anchors the track while hard-hitting rhythms collide with forward-thinking synth lines and playful electronic textures. Over the production, I’MMORTAL delivers haunting, whispery vocals that add another layer of unease to the track’s dark and otherworldly atmosphere.
Written and produced by I’MMORTAL, the track was mixed and mastered by Mikaelin Bluespruce, whose credits include Solange, Mariah Carey, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Blood Orange. The result should appeal to listeners drawn to the experimental electronic worlds of SOPHIE, Arca and umru.
The inspiration behind the track came from an unlikely source. I’MMORTAL created SWAMP MONSTER after watching John Waters’ Pink Flamingos, particularly its use of filth and unconventionality as a form of resistance.
“I made ‘SWAMP MONSTER’ after watching John Waters’ movie ‘Pink Flamingos’. I love how leaning into filth was the main character Divine’s armor against traditional society’s constructs. ‘SWAMP MONSTER’ is a playful exploration of the unconventional. It’s about diving into the murky, taboo corners of your identity and reclaiming them as a source of strength.”
With SWAMP MONSTER, I’MMORTAL turns those murky corners into something loud, strange and playful, creating a Halloween-ready electronic anthem that embraces the unconventional rather than hiding from it.
