Alternative-experimental pop artist Georgina Taylor unveils her new holiday single “What Child Is This”, out now. Transforming the beloved medieval Christmas carol into a vibrant, danceable track, the single fuses festive tradition with a driving disco beat, inviting listeners to celebrate the season with energy and movement. Produced and arranged by Taylor at her In The Garden Productions studio, the song honors the carol’s roots while introducing a fresh, contemporary sound.

The recording features contributions from seasoned industry professionals who elevate the arrangement. Detroit bassist Alan Snoop Evans II (Fred Hammond, Take 6, The Clark Sisters) lays down a dynamic low-end groove, while guitarist John Meyer (Jupiter Coyote) infuses his signature melodic style. Production Advisor Preston Heyman, renowned London drummer and producer (Kate Bush, Paul McCartney, Sting, Massive Attack), lends his expertise, with mixing by Simon Allen and mastering by Nigel Palmer at Lowlands Mastering.

Taylor’s creative process is rooted in spontaneity and intuition, describing her approach as “Divine Inspiration,” where complete songs emerge rapidly. True to her signature style, she layered a rich tapestry of background vocals by ear, creating the lush textures that define the single’s vocal centerpiece. Born in Chelmsford, Essex, England, and now based in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Taylor draws on her Anglo-Indian heritage and Catholic upbringing to craft music that balances exotic flair with timeless tradition.

The melody of “What Child Is This” traces back to the 1580 English folk song Greensleeves, long rumored to have been penned by King Henry VIII and later attributed to Richard Jones of the London Stationer’s Company. The lyrics, composed in 1865 by William Chatterton Dix, remain central to Taylor’s interpretation, with her delivery of lines like “What Child is this / Who laid to rest / On Mary’s lap is sleeping” and “Haste, haste, to bring Him laud / The Babe, the Son of Mary” bringing dramatic intensity and a unique pop sensibility.

Mike White Presents describes Taylor’s music as “like being pursued by Peter Gabriel, Bat 4 Lashes, and Kate Bush into a fairytale forest populated by characters from a Guillermo del Toro film,” perfectly capturing the cinematic, alternative-experimental edge of her artistry. Beyond music, Taylor is an advocate for human, animal, and environmental rights and actively engages in philanthropic work.

Stream “What Child Is This” now on all major platforms and experience Georgina Taylor’s inventive holiday vision.
