Growing up in Hawaii, there was no need to get on a cruise ship to take you to a tropical paradise, cause I was already there. And despite the near-constant presence of cruise ships in Kona, I’ve never gone on a cruise. So I’m trying to prepare myself for getting my mind BLOWN by Groove Cruise Miami. After all, it combines some of my favorite things in life… phenomenal music, daytime dancing, sun, sand, and saltwater, all experienced with my PLUR family. After sailing with Groove Cruise Miami on the Celebrity Infinity to Key West and Cozumel from January 10-14, I’ll never be able to go on a “normal” cruise.
As per usual, the artists I’m most excited to see aren’t the big headliners. We’ll start with Chus + Ceballos, founders of Stereo Productions, and tribal house extraordinaires. This Spanish duo has been touring since 2000, the year I became dedicated to all things electronic. And oddly enough, what sold me on the scene were the giant clubs of Barcelona, Madrid, and Ibiza where I heard nothing but exceptional DJs mixing the perfect selection of records. So it’s no surprise that Chus + Ceballos pioneered and popularized the “Iberican sound” that exploded around the globe. We recognize this as tribal house, which is one of my absolute favorites to dance to. Looking forward to seeing a lot of sashaying hips with these guys.
Next up is house music hustler Roger Sanchez, whose propensity for crate digging helped him develop his signature style over the years. His weekly Release Yourself radio show is known for its blend of house with Latin and tribal influences and has over 15 million listeners in over 30 countries worldwide. I’ve seen him countless times over the and it’s guaranteed Roger Sanchez’s bangin’ beats will get me dancing!
It’s been many, many years since I’ve seen Scooter & Lavelle, but I haven’t forgotten how hard I danced to every second of their sets. And in my mind, these are the guys that brought us Vegas mashups. These guys flawlessly cut some of my old school favorites like Beastie Boys’ No Sleep ‘til Brooklyn and Daft Punk’s iconic Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger into their sets. And they used to do it on vinyl no less! So you best believe I’ll be shuffling up a storm when these guys hit the decks.
Those beautiful blondes Eli & Fur will bring it down a notch with their signature airy vocals. But make no mistake, I’ll still Feel the Fire and cut a rug to these gals’ infectious melodic house beats. Having seen them at ABGT250 and more recently at a small venue in Portland, they impressed me with their ability to play to the crowd and make adjustments based on the mood of a room. And with the release of their 2018 Night Blooming Jasmine EP, I can’t wait to hear which version of Parfume they drop on the ship.
With headliners like Kaskade, Aly & Fila, and Markus Schulz, they’ve pulled out all the stops for their 15 year anniversary. Check out the Groove Cruise website for more info on the day and night theme parties, ship and land activities, and if you don’t have a room yet, get on it! They’re over 90% sold out! Which of you landlubbers do I get to see there?
