Swedish singer-songwriter Ellen Krauss returns with “Look At You,” a deeply personal single that reflects on childhood, family, identity, and the experiences that shape who we become. Looking back on formative memories and relationships, the track reveals a more vulnerable side of Krauss as she begins a new creative chapter ahead of her forthcoming album, expected in early 2027.

Laced with nostalgia, “Look At You” revisits the past without romanticizing it. Instead, Krauss explores the complicated emotions that can emerge when examining childhood through an adult perspective, leaving room for uncertainty and interpretation. Memories, relationships, and unanswered questions sit at the center of the song, creating an intimate portrait of someone working to understand where they come from and how those experiences continue to influence their life.

“If I Roll My Eyes’ is the tip of the iceberg, then ‘Look At You’ could be what was hiding below,” Krauss explains, offering a glimpse into the deeper emotional territory explored in her latest material.

The song grew out of a period of reflection that followed the release of her previous album and its accompanying tour. After years of intense activity, Krauss stepped away from performing and, in her own words, went “straight into the therapist’s chair.” Questions surrounding family began to surface, eventually finding their way into her songwriting as she worked through memories and feelings she had previously kept guarded.

“I’m coming to terms with certain parts of my childhood, and I don’t think I’ve ever had the strength or courage to be this direct about the subject in my songwriting. But perhaps, above all, the song is about a longing for family and a longing to find my way home,” she says.

Rather than attempting to resolve those feelings, “Look At You” allows them to exist without easy answers. Krauss revisits moments from her early life while acknowledging how their meaning can change over time. The result is a song that balances personal reflection with themes listeners can interpret through their own experiences of family, belonging, and growing up.

The production reinforces that sense of looking backward while continuing to move forward. A simple, repetitive arrangement evokes the way memories and familiar thoughts can return unexpectedly, while small sonic details emerge throughout the track. The steady kick drum provides a sense of forward motion, contrasting with the introspective nature of the lyrics.

That balance between emotional vulnerability and accessible pop songwriting has become a defining characteristic of Krauss’ music. Her work combines direct, unguarded lyrics with memorable melodies and a restrained intensity that allows intimate experiences to take on a broader emotional resonance. Although “Look At You” is deeply personal, its themes of family and the search for belonging give the song a wider connection.

Since her debut, Krauss has established herself as one of Sweden’s distinctive singer-songwriters. Her breakthrough came through TV4’s Så Mycket Bättre, one of the country’s most influential music television programs, where established artists reinterpret one another’s songs. She later received the 2024 Swedish Grammy Award for Singer-Songwriter of the Year and the LGBTQ+ of the Year award at the QX Gala. Her achievements have also included an appearance on the prestigious Swedish radio program Sommar i P1.

Her album Romeo was followed by the Romeo On Tour run, which took her across Sweden before she continued into Europe as a touring partner for American singer-songwriter Joshua Radin. After those demanding years of recording and performing, Krauss took a break from the stage and began working from her newly built studio on Surbrunnsgatan in Stockholm.

That period of distance and reflection has helped shape the material now emerging from her next creative phase. “Look At You” forms part of a new collection of songs for her forthcoming 2027 album, with Krauss approaching her songwriting with greater openness after years of keeping certain parts of herself protected.

With its understated production and unflinching emotional perspective, “Look At You” offers a glimpse into that evolution. Ellen Krauss is not simply revisiting her past; she is examining how it continues to shape her present, turning deeply personal questions into a song that invites listeners to consider their own paths toward understanding, connection, and home.
