Our world has been viciously flipped upside down this year in a way no one saw coming. We had all hoped this was going to be a short viral flare and that life would continue on as planned. Sadly, this was quickly proven wrong. With the blink of an eye, events like Lightning in a Bottle, EDC LV, Bonnaroo, and Movement have either been postponed or canceled with concerns of public health and safety. The shakeup of the festival world has had us all anticipating the fate of Electric Forest 2020.
As if having our springtime festivals canceled was not enough heartbreak to endure, Electric Forest 2020 is now the next victim COVID-19 has claimed. Following a meeting with the Village of Rothbury on April 9th, Rothbury has denied the speculated new dates of September 10th-13th. We were hopeful we’d at least be able to attend later this year but with September being jam-packed with festivals, it wasn’t looking good. Today marks a sad day for #forestfam as Insomniac and Madison House announced we would no longer be returning home to the Sherwood Forest in 2020 to celebrate Decade One.
We always knew Electric Forest would take care of us (unlike some other festivals who just “postponed” to skirt around the refund issue. Electric Forest has agreed to two options: Retaining your wristband and lodging packages for the 2021 event, or a full refund including FEES! Purchasers will be contacted via email within the next 48 hours with details. With this years event selling out at lightning speed, if you wish to go next year it might be advisable to hang on to those if you are not in dire need of the funds currently. (Don’t worry if you need to refund and grab them later, somehow the forest always seems to provide).
As we sit here with heavy hearts, there is one thing I am certain of, Forest fam will make an effortless come back. 2021 will be the emotional high we all need and it will all be worth it when we’re dancing our darkness away between the trees. Electric Forest now has the opportunity to heal and grow into something more beautiful. Please be sure to stay home and stay healthy. Take care of your mental health and check in on your friends. We need each other more than ever right now. See you at home in the forest 2021.
