Within moments of stepping foot inside the Speedway for EDC Las Vegas 2019, I knew I would return in 2020. There was no question in my mind. It was my first Electric Daisy Carnival, and the first festival I have attended that comes close to recreating the audiovisual spectacle of Ibiza in its heyday. In other words, no festival has wowed me like EDC Las Vegas since I was at Privilege’s Manumission Monday back in 2002.
Celebrating their 10-year Diamond Anniversary, EDC Las Vegas 2020 will take place May 15th to 17th. I have no doubt whatsoever that Pasquale Rotella and Insomniac Events have something special up their sleeves to commemorate the decade of parties. What that may be, I have no clue! After seeing this year’s swoon-worthy lineup, gargantuan stages, art cars and installations, colorful and talented live performers, wedding ceremonies, and all the other oddities, I can’t imagine how they could possibly best 2019.
You can peruse all the EDC pictures you want, but they don’t show the little details like the Mini Bar with midgets serving free cocktails and performing Lady Gaga. Or the hilarious Up All Night radio show interviewing you on where the best place to “do it” is located. Or the syncopated fireworks displays coordinated to the beats of your favorite DJs that light up the sky brighter than any fireworks display I’ve ever seen. Or the kiss shared on the rollercoaster before the HOLY SHIT WHY DID I DO THIS adrenaline spike.
For me, festivals have always been about the unplanned moments of love and joy shared with friends, known and unknown, and there are endless opportunities for that at EDC. When we step onto Electric Avenue, we are leaving our cares and worries behind, letting our inner child free, and we want to be WOWED. That’s what Insomniac gets right with Electric Daisy Carnival. The experience surrounding, and in-between hearing your favorite artists night after night is what you truly remember and take home with you. I went to EDC Las Vegas 2019 for the lineup, but it’s the carnival and all of you Headliners that ensure my return in 2020. Who else will I see Under the Electric Sky?!?
