The idea of living between worlds sits at the center of Sacha Robotti’s debut album, I, ROBOTTI, and its latest release takes that concept in an entirely new direction. Out now via Dirtybird, British electronic music pioneer DJ Rap delivers the first official remix from the album, transforming their collaboration “Looking Through The Glass” into a powerful liquid drum & bass cut.
The original track already carried a sense of duality. Created from DJ Rap’s experience moving between the United States and England, while producing and performing across both jungle and house, “Looking Through The Glass” reflected an artist navigating two countries, two cultures, and two musical worlds at once.
Her remix makes that contrast even more pronounced.
Rolling breakbeats, lush atmospheric layers, and deep low-end completely reshape the track, pushing it toward the fluid, immersive sound of liquid drum & bass. At the center, DJ Rap’s ethereal vocals remain suspended above the production, giving the remix a dreamlike quality while maintaining the emotional character of the original.
Rather than simply changing the genre, the remix expands on the idea that inspired the song in the first place. House and jungle have both played defining roles in DJ Rap’s career, and the new version allows those two sides to exist within the same track.
“I wrote ‘Looking Through the Glass’ while dividing my life between the USA and England, producing and playing both jungle and house. I was living between two countries, two cultures and two sounds. For me, this song is about duality,” DJ Rap explains.
For Sacha Robotti, having DJ Rap return to the collaboration as a remixer makes the release particularly meaningful. Her original vocals helped establish the identity of “Looking Through The Glass,” while her new interpretation gives the song another perspective entirely.
“I’m absolutely stoked to have collaborated with DJ Rap on ‘Looking Through The Glass’. DJ Rap is an absolute legend, and having her bring her magic vocals to the project was a real honor. I also love that she took it one step further with a drum & bass remix, re-imagining the track through her own ‘looking glass’,” Sacha Robotti says.
That willingness to look at the same piece of music from different angles is also central to I, ROBOTTI. Spanning the many sounds and creative influences accumulated throughout Sacha Robotti’s 20-year career, the album moves between different sides of his musical identity rather than settling into a single definition.
The remix extends that philosophy by bringing the musical histories of Robotti and DJ Rap even closer together. Their shared connection to both American and European dance music becomes part of the track’s DNA, while the move into liquid drum & bass demonstrates how naturally the collaboration can cross genre boundaries.
In that sense, “Looking Through The Glass” becomes more than a track with a new arrangement. The original captured the experience of existing between different places and sounds, while DJ Rap’s remix turns that same idea into movement, carrying the song from house into drum & bass without losing its emotional center.
