Chasing Dreams | An Intimate Interview with Dixon’s Violin

by The Freaks - Staff

I had the immense pleasure of seeing Dixon’s Violin at my first Electric Forest experience in 2018. It was our final day, and we were fortunate to even get a ride into the festival. We luckily spotted a couple who looked festival dressed, and spent a good majority of our time with them in the Observatory while they showed my friend and I what “Rothbury” meant to them.

One man and a violin started out on a journey nearly a decade ago to escape #cubelife. I have always been drawn to live music but had never seen a show quite like Dixon with his electric violin. It is truly a sight to behold, as he not only plays beautifully but imparts words of wisdom into the crowd for all those who will listen. “Take care of your neighbor.” “You cannot fill from an empty cup.” “We are stronger united.” Considering him a mascot or spirit animal for Electric Forest, I felt he spoke especially to me. I knew my one goal returning would be to meet this exceptional man, thank him for everything he has done for the music community, and for inspiring me when I truly needed it.

I can’t say enough what a pleasure it was to not only meet Dixon but to interview him at our favorite festival. Electric Forest has that magical quality where anything can happen. Listen or watch as Dixon discusses his beginnings as an IT guru to fest guru and everything in between.
