Bass music producer COSTA joins forces with award-winning vocalist, songwriter, and producer Linney for “Siren Call,” arriving October 28 via Monstercat. Marking one of COSTA’s most introspective releases to date, the collaboration explores self-doubt, vulnerability, and the pressure of expectations through dark, cinematic production and hypnotic vocals.

Built around the feeling of being trapped inside your own thoughts, “Siren Call” creates an unsettling atmosphere that gradually tightens its grip. Haunting textures and descending melodies establish a sense of unease, while the arrangement steadily builds tension without offering an easy release. When the pressure finally breaks, towering detuned synths, dissonant melodies, and distorted bass erupt into a chaotic drop that pushes the track into darker territory.

Throughout the production, Linney’s hypnotic vocal performance intertwines with COSTA’s emotionally charged sound design. The contrast between the vulnerable vocal delivery and the track’s abrasive electronic elements creates a listening experience that feels both deeply personal and disorienting. Even as the intensity subsides, the closing moments leave the listener alone with the thoughts that initially drew them into the song.

Despite its expansive sound, “Siren Call” emerged from a single six-hour co-writing session. The collaboration brought together two artists from different corners of the music industry who discovered a shared connection through their experiences with self-doubt and the pressure to prove themselves. Their conversations explored the fear of being judged, the possibility of falling short, and the loneliness that can come with struggling to ask for help.

For COSTA, the track began with a vocal concept centered on someone moving through life on autopilot, disconnected from the people around them and lost in their own head. That idea became the foundation for a production built around the mental feedback loop that develops when ambition and insecurity begin working against each other.

“The inspiration for this track actually started with a vocal I found about someone whose mind is on autopilot, lost in their own head, not knowing where anyone around them is. Capturing that feedback loop, when you’re chasing something and your own thoughts start turning against you, became the production blueprint for the song. It’s dark and somber, but there is so much emotion underneath. It’s awful in the best way. When we got in the studio, Linney and I connected on that almost instantly. No matter how far you get, there’s always a little bit of doubt waiting for an opportunity to creep in—and I think that’s something everyone experiences in their own way. It was my first time ever writing lyrics, and finding a way to give those feelings a voice with Linney felt completely natural, because we’ve both lived them. I’m really proud of where we took this one.”

Linney approaches the song from a similarly vulnerable perspective, focusing on the fear of allowing someone to see the parts of yourself that are usually kept hidden. Beneath its dark atmosphere, “Siren Call” captures the conflict between wanting someone to understand you and fearing what might happen if they get close enough to see everything.

“‘Siren Call’ is about the fear of letting someone see every part of you, especially the parts you usually keep hidden. It lives in that space between wanting to be saved and being terrified of what happens if someone gets close enough to really know you. The song feels like a cry from underwater, asking: if you knew all my secrets, would you still reach in and pull me out?”

That tension lies at the heart of the collaboration. The doubts explored in “Siren Call” may feel deeply individual, but the emotions behind them are widely recognizable. By pairing COSTA’s meticulous, cinematic production with Linney’s expressive vocals, the artists turn those private struggles into a shared experience.

With its dissonant drops, haunting atmosphere, and emotionally exposed songwriting, “Siren Call” pushes beyond a conventional bass music release. The Monstercat collaboration offers a darker look at the thoughts that can accompany personal ambition, revealing how easily the pursuit of success can become entangled with the fear of never being enough.
