Dutch producer Buunshin continues building toward his highly anticipated debut album with “Save Crystal,” a striking collaboration with rising vocalist and songwriter Mara Necia. Following the immersive introduction provided by “Luminous Body,” the new single pushes deeper into the emotional and experimental world surrounding Buunshin’s forthcoming LP, pairing his intricate production with Mara Necia’s commanding vocal presence.
Where “Luminous Body” explored transcendence through movement and heightened self-awareness, “Save Crystal” takes a more immediate and human approach. Melodic percussion, densely layered textures and swelling emotion create a persistent sense of forward momentum, while Mara Necia’s vocals introduce vulnerability and intimacy against Buunshin’s expansive sonic framework.
The collaboration also highlights one of Buunshin’s defining strengths: his ability to treat bass music as a starting point rather than a boundary. “Save Crystal” incorporates a distinctly UK garage-inspired rhythmic sensibility, with propulsive grooves and intricate percussion woven into the darker, highly detailed production style that has become synonymous with his work.
The result is a track built around contrasts. Fragility exists alongside force, darkness meets light, and moments of controlled precision collide with a sense of organized chaos. Rather than settling into a single genre identity, Buunshin uses those tensions to create a sound that feels constantly in motion.
“Save Crystal” follows “Luminous Body,” the first single from the upcoming album and the track that introduced Buunshin’s broader concept of reaching a heightened state of awareness through music and physical movement. Since its release, he has continued bringing that vision to audiences around the world, including a recent performance at Let It Roll, further reinforcing his reputation as one of contemporary bass music’s most compelling live performers.
Born in the Netherlands, Buunshin, whose real name is Ferry Mellegers, has spent the past several years challenging the conventions of modern electronic music. His unconventional production has earned support from Skrillex, Flume, Porter Robinson, Chris Lake and Noisia, while his collaborative catalog includes work with What So Not, IMANU, San Holo, Evan Giia, DROELOE, DJ Fresh, Habstrakt, The Caracal Project and Apashe.
His remix of Apashe’s “Distance” became a standout release within his catalog, while his late-2025 collaborative album The Quiet That Hurts with What So Not further showcased his ability to balance emotionally driven songwriting with intricate, boundary-pushing sound design.
For Mara Necia, “Save Crystal” introduces her voice to an increasingly expansive sonic world. Her intimate delivery provides a human counterweight to Buunshin’s detailed production, allowing the track to operate on two levels at once: it carries the physical impact expected from a powerful sound system while maintaining an inward-looking emotional core.
As Buunshin moves closer to his debut album, “Save Crystal” offers another glimpse into an artistic universe that continues to expand beyond conventional genre definitions. With emotion, experimentation and meticulous sound design at its center, the single suggests that the forthcoming LP will be less about fitting into a particular scene and more about exploring what exists beneath the surface.
