Axel Boy is gearing up for the release of his forthcoming EP Shangri-La, arriving May 15 via Deadbeats. Following a streak of heavyweight releases, including “On Time” alongside Princess Superstar, the Bristol-based producer returns with a bold five-track project that pushes his bass-heavy sound into even more immersive territory.
Known for blending UK Garage, Dubstep, and Drum & Bass into cinematic, high-impact productions, Axel Boy has steadily carved out a distinctive lane within modern bass music. His releases have earned support from major labels including UKF, Dim Mak, and Warner Records, while artists such as Skrillex, Zeds Dead, NGHTMRE, The Chainsmokers, and Tiësto have all championed his music across both underground clubs and large-scale festival stages.
Across the EP’s five tracks, Axel Boy dives deeper into a vibrant sonic landscape where explosive bass design meets emotional intensity. Inspired by both the mythical concept of paradise and the iconic Shangri-La area of Glastonbury Festival, the project explores themes of escape, nostalgia, and controlled chaos while maintaining a cohesive yet unpredictable energy throughout.

Tracks like I See You and Pressure Dub lean heavily into crushing low-end pressure and aggressive bass textures, while On Time showcases a more groove-focused UKG influence. The EP’s title track channels euphoric early-2010s dubstep nostalgia with soaring energy and cinematic progression, while closing cut Beat Down brings the project to a darker, weightier conclusion rooted in classic UK bass pressure.
With Shangri-La, Axel Boy delivers what may be his most fully realized project to date — a release that captures both the chaos and catharsis of modern bass music while continuing to push his sound into new territory.
