Get ready to give up some of your “Bad Behaviour”, because Bass House King AC Slater is now on tour!
Ever since exploding onto the music scene in 2008, AC Slater (true name Aaron Clevenger), has now grown and perfected his style into what many now consider to be the very definition of Bass House music. Calling it ‘fine-tuning’ discredits the intense bass drops and the heavy wubs, so it’s really more akin to a motorcycle rider revving his engine louder and louder, shaking your bones until you can’t take it. I still remember hearing 2016’s “Bass Inside” for the first time, and being absolutely captivated by the sinister atmosphere the melody created, before having my face blown off by the insane breakdown. It remains one of my favourite Bass House tracks of all time.
While I’ll definitely be praying that AC Slater will drop “Bass Inside” on his stop on March 14th at Toronto’s Mod Club, the fact remains that there will be many more tracks to enjoy on the HI8 Tour, named for his second and newest album released in September of last year. HI8 is an excellent continuation from his first album (2017’s Outsiders), featuring a 12-track combo of heavy solo hits and collaborations with fellow Bass House alumni like Chris Lorenzo, Taiki Nulight and Jay Robinson. Hard-hitting tracks like “Complete Control” showcase AC Slater’s full evolution as an artist, sounding grimy yet refined, a blend of Tech, Bass, and Grime, the kind of track you desperately want to hear at full power as it’s blasted through a club speaker. On the other end of the spectrum, “Bad Behaviour”, with its devilish vocal hook and a touch of Reggae influence, seems like a return to form and a perfect pick for die-hard Bass House lovers. But the track destined to be the star of the Hi8 Tour is “Laid Off”, featuring a grinding synth, a punchy hi-hat and a bass drop of nuclear proportions that will shake the rafters of any club.
The fifteen-stop HI8 tour began on February 14th at the Roseland Theatre in Portland, Oregon (hello, perfect Valentine’s Day!), then continued through Vancouver’s Celebrities Nightclub in Canada on February 15th. The rest of the dates feature stops all over North America, with three different cities in both California and Texas, and then Boston, Brooklyn, Montreal, among many others. So grab your tickets, lace up your sneakers, blast HI8 on the way to the club, and get ready to pay tribute to the King of Bass House!
