Manchester-based singer-songwriter Aaliyah Esprit continues her rise within the UK electronic scene with the release of her new single “My Ex-Stacy,” out June 12. The track sees her stepping confidently into more experimental territory, blending drum & bass, trance-inspired production, and nostalgic rave influences into a high-energy, emotionally charged release.
Produced by Channell of The North Quarter and reworked by Bypassmusic, “My Ex-Stacy” is built around euphoric synth lines, rapid-fire percussion, and chaotic late-night energy. Beneath its club-driven intensity, the track tells a playful yet reflective story about a toxic relationship, emotional dependency, and the addictive cycle of escapism found in nightlife and partying.
The single marks a bold stylistic expansion for Aaliyah Esprit, who first emerged with her independently released EP Exchanging Energies. That project showcased her foundation in R&B, soul, and jazz, establishing her as a distinctive new voice in the UK scene. Her early development was further supported through the Future Bubblers initiative, founded by Gilles Peterson and Brownswood Recordings, which helped nurture her evolving artistic direction.
While “My Ex-Stacy” pushes firmly into drum & bass and rave-inspired sonics, Aaliyah’s R&B roots remain central to her identity. Her vocal delivery and melodic instincts continue to shape her sound, allowing her to bridge soulful songwriting with high-tempo electronic production in a way that feels both natural and forward-thinking.
Her entry into drum & bass was accelerated through key creative connections within the scene, including producer Lenzman and collaborators such as DRS. Early studio sessions with Lenzman and The North Quarter proved pivotal, leading to further collaborations across respected labels and artists, including Zero T and C.I.A Records.
Since then, Aaliyah Esprit has built an increasingly diverse catalog, including her solo R&B release “Hate To Be You” and collaborations such as “Bleeding Out” with Zero T on Soulvent Records, “Something Got Me” with Zero T on The North Quarter, and “Hustlin” with Lally via Hospital Records. Her growing reputation has also taken her to major stages including We Out Here Festival, Bluedot Festival, The Great Escape, and London venue Omeara, spanning both underground and festival circuits.
Beyond releasing music, Aaliyah has spent recent years refining her craft through international writing camps in Bali and Italy with Arcadia, while also developing her own production skills and deepening her understanding of studio work and arrangement.
Now entering a new creative chapter, “My Ex-Stacy” signals the beginning of a renewed focus on drum & bass-led material, while also setting the stage for a wave of upcoming R&B releases later this year. The single stands as a defining statement of intent—showing Aaliyah Esprit as an artist fully in command of her evolving sound and direction.
