Venezuela-born, Barcelona-based producer Safety Trance—the project of Luis Garbán—steps into a defining moment with the release of his debut album sacrificio, out now via Club Romantico and Mad Decent. The project reframes the dancefloor as something deeper than escapism, transforming it into a ritual space where grief, desire, and darkness are processed through rhythm and movement.
At its core, sacrificio is a study in emotional transmutation. Drawing from early reggaeton, witch house, Memphis rap, and contemporary club music, Safety Trance fuses dembow patterns with industrial textures, trance melodies, and experimental hard techno. The result is a boundary-pushing body of work that bridges underground Latin club traditions with darker, more abrasive electronic frameworks.
The album unfolds as a fluid, collaborative experience, moving seamlessly between moods and sonic palettes. It opens with the glitch-heavy “the beat drops” alongside longtime collaborator Arca, before shifting into the sensual, atmospheric “most of me (is elsewhere)” with Eartheater and Sega Bodega. Elsewhere, standout moments include “no me quiero dormir” with Six Sex, the high-impact “duro” featuring nusar3000 and Kinara, and contributions from Meth Math and Lolahol, each adding new dimensions to the album’s expansive world.
Beyond its sonic ambition, sacrificio represents the culmination of Garbán’s dual artistic identity. Emerging in the 2000s, he built a reputation through his Cardopusher alias, known for its industrial, techno-forward intensity. In parallel, Safety Trance evolved as a platform to rewire the DNA of Latin club music, pushing reggaeton into experimental territory while maintaining its rhythmic core.
That duality is what gives sacrificio its edge. The album doesn’t just merge genres—it collapses them into a singular, visceral experience where softness and aggression, sensuality and distortion, coexist in constant tension. It’s a sound shaped as much by underground warehouse culture as it is by Latin club heritage, reflecting a broader shift in global electronic music toward hybrid, genreless forms.
Following the album’s release, Safety Trance is set to bring this vision to stages worldwide, with upcoming shows across Vancouver, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, alongside European dates and a hometown appearance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
With sacrificio, Safety Trance doesn’t just deliver a debut album—he establishes a new framework for experimental dance music, one where the club becomes a site of release, connection, and transformation.
