Melodic bass visionary Seven Lions returns with a new EP, The Dreams Strange and Eternal, out today, May 1 via Ophelia Records. Serving as both a companion and bridge to his 2025 album Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars, the project continues to deepen the immersive, emotionally driven world that has come to define his recent work.
The EP arrives following the release of two standout singles that hinted at its expansive direction. In March, Seven Lions unveiled “Hurricane,” a euphoric, trance-leaning collaboration with Andrew Bayer and OAKS, while April brought “Free” with Brieanna Grace, a genre-blurring track that weaves together melodic bass, house, and cinematic elements. The latter also sparked a fan-driven remix contest, with the winning entry set for release on Ophelia Records later this month.
Across its full runtime, The Dreams Strange and Eternal unfolds as a cohesive, narrative-driven listening experience. Opening with “A Crown of Seven Moons,” the EP establishes a serene, atmospheric tone before transitioning into its previously released singles. “Summer,” another collaboration with OAKS, injects an uptempo, electro-leaning energy with soaring vocals, while “Dreams” channels Eurodance influences before pivoting into heavier dubstep territory. The title track, “Strange and Eternal,” closes the project with a richly layered, cinematic finale that reinforces the EP’s emotional arc.
Reflecting on the release, Seven Lions explains:
“A lot of those songs on The Dreams Strange and Eternal are connected to the album Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars, but some ultimately didn’t fit within its sonic world. That pushed me to take them in a more forward-thinking direction and shape something that could stand on its own.”
The EP builds on the success of Asleep in the Garden of Infernal Stars, which earned widespread acclaim and secured Best Album at the EDM Awards as well as Album of the Year from Dancing Astronaut. Together, the two projects form a larger conceptual arc, blending fantasy-inspired storytelling with intricate production and emotional depth.
The release also lands as Seven Lions—the project of Jeff Montalvo—reaches the midpoint of his North American headline tour. Upcoming dates include major stops at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, and additional venues across the country, where his immersive live production continues to translate his studio world into a fully realized visual and sonic experience.
Since breaking through with his 2012 remix of Above & Beyond’s “You Got to Go,” Seven Lions has become one of the most influential figures in modern electronic music. With releases on Anjunabeats, OWSLA, and Casablanca, and the founding of Ophelia Records, he has consistently pushed melodic bass into new territory. His catalog includes defining tracks like “Strangers,” “Rush Over Me,” and “Need Your Love,” alongside collaborations with artists such as ILLENIUM, Subtronics, and Skylar Grey.
With over a billion streams and a reputation for emotionally resonant, high-impact performances at festivals like Ultra Music Festival, EDC Las Vegas, and Electric Forest, Seven Lions continues to evolve both sonically and conceptually. The Dreams Strange and Eternal stands as the next chapter in that journey—bridging past and future while expanding the boundaries of his cinematic sound.
