Bass music has taken over the scene in the states, and that doesn’t seem to be changing any time soon. This has given space for so many new rising bass artists to not only grow in their art but also grow their community. With that being said that brings us to up and coming bass artist and this week’s MCM Wooli, Adam Frosh.
Bringing his flavor to the dubstep realm Wooli delivers “briddim” drums, cinematic soundscapes, and heavy bass. He breaks out of the boxes that say “you must have one and one sound only” by putting his feelings into his music, whatever they may be. As a regular festival goer and being surrounded by music from friends, he felt inspired to explore the world behind the decks. After gaining much practice playing drum and bass or house music at a local club, he wanted to be able to express himself through his music and took to YouTube to learn Ableton. A short year later Excision played one of his tracks in his Shambhala set, he put out a collab with Jantsen and headed out on his first tour with Dirt Monkey as support.
His collaboration with Jantsen, a wizard in his own right, was one of the first releases of many. Since then, he has put three EPs and a massive collection of singles working with some of bass music’s most innovative and freshest such as Excision, Seven Lions, Snails, Kompany, YOOKiE, FuntCase, MARAUDA, and Trivecta. Now he is playing festivals he could only ever dream of that he attended before he started music, such as Electric Zoo and Moonrise. On Friday, he released an EP with long-time inspiration and supporter, Excision.
2019 has been a year full of excitement and milestones for Wooli. From closing out a tour with Adventure Club and making it to line-ups he dreamed of, to putting out an entire body of music with Excision and going on his own headlining tour. As a fan, it’s been extremely exciting to watch, but it’s nothing compared to how excited I am to see where he’s headed. If you haven’t had a chance to witness a Wooli set, catch him on The Voyage Tour in a city near you.
