Once again, I find myself attending another showcase by Cityfox at the Brooklyn Mirage. What I look forward to the most when attending a Cityfox show is the production quality. The combination of lasers and intense visuals projected onto the walls of the Brooklyn Mirage always captures the crowd’s attention.
After attending so many shows at the Mirage during the summer of 2018, I have been patiently waiting for the 2019 season to begin. Enough indoor shows, I have been waiting to witness the re-opening of the Brooklyn Mirage.
Techno vibes all night, all over the venue.
An important part of going to a concert is resting when I need a break from dancing. With this new design of the Brooklyn Mirage there are way more spots to sit down and relax. The brand new lounge areas surrounded by plants and bars being available all around were so impressive. The great hall was designed to create a chill environment where everyone was able to rest on couches, while mesmerizing visuals by the artist 404.zero were looped on a big screen. This definitely added to the concert experience that not many other shows have.
I had to check out the live set by Monolink in Kings Hall, he had the room packed tight and everyone was grooving to the beat. The Cityfox experience as a whole is always fun because I get to see so many artists that I have not heard before. I finally got to see the main outdoor area of the Brooklyn Mirage and Anja Schneider is making the crowd move. The first act I was most excited to see was Recondite live. After seeing so many sets online from other festivals I was able to see the incredible show in person. Recondite creates this melodic sound while bringing continuous bass across the floor. When I didn’t think the night could get any better, it began to rain, and this set the perfect mood for the rest of the night.
On to the main event, what I have been waiting for is Patrick Topping in Kings Hall. As hot as it was in Kings Hall, I had to witness this man’s incredible set. I’m used to hearing funky house when I see him perform, but on this night he gave us such a versatile set that kept our attention the entire night. So many feelings went through me as he went from groovy to dark tech house. I love to watch a DJ who is enjoying his own set with the crowd. When I looked up at Topping, it felt as if he was in the crowd dancing with all of us. The body language from Patrick Topping as he moved to his own beat the entire night was incredible. As the night came to an end, Topping began to close with disco and the crowd went wild once ‘Another Night’ by Real McCoy came on. To top it all off, he ended perfectly with the popular Topping & Green Velvet track ‘Voicemail’.
That feeling when you don’t want to leave the party.
The only unfortunate part of these shows is that the lineup is so talented I have to choose which artist I want to see and miss the others. I was impressed by how many people were dedicated to seeing all these artists and stood out all night in the rain. Cityfox once again brought another amazing production the the Brooklyn Mirage that I won’t forget. This has me even more excited for all the upcoming shows this summer, especially Cityfox: Arise!
I know I’ll be back at the Brooklyn Mirage on Saturday, July 6th for the next Cityfox Experience. These events provide an atmosphere you simply cannot miss.
