#MCM | GRiZ | The Funkiest Guy Around is Back and Headlining Shambhala!

After feeling inspired with the exciting first headliner release for Shambhala Music Festival, what better candidate for Man Crush Monday than one of the funkiest dudes out there, GRiZ. Hailing from Detroit, GRiZ has taken the funk scene to a whole new level. With his live sexy saxophone, electro-soul vibes, and high-energy stage presence, GRiZ has to be one of the most talented electronic artists to date.

After taking a year long hiatus, GRiZ has finally returned to the music scene and is taking it by storm. He has booked headlining spots at festivals in 2019 such as Ultra Miami, Bonnaroo, and of course Shambhala. GRiZ is also hard at work on an album, “Ride Waves”, set to release April 5^th. Ride Waves is said to be “his most creatively ambitious, most sonically robust, and most personal project to date.” With 14 tracks and collaborations from artists such as Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, and DRAM, GRiZ stays true to the funk but embarks into hiphop, pop, and EDM.

“Sometimes in life, there are big-ass waves that you try and ride, and then you fail,” GRiZ says of the meaning behind Ride Waves. “But then you choose to ride the next wave with confidence. To me, Ride Waves is about how all the ups in life come with the downs. All the swells, all the tides—they come and go.”

The first time I saw GRiZ was at Shambhala in 2015 with his debut set at the Pagoda stage. I found myself in awe of his shining, down-to-earth personality that was evident through his music. His energy transformed the crowd into this groovy atmosphere full of smiles and hugs. GRiZ has to be in my top ten live music performances. I can’t wait to experience his set at Fractal Forest.
