Australian artist and producer JVLY continues building anticipation for his forthcoming SUNDERLUXE EP with “STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM,” a reimagined take on one of the project’s defining tracks.

The new version revisits the song’s earliest form, offering a glimpse into the creative process behind SUNDER while opening the door to the parallel world explored through SUNDERLUXE. The original appeared on SUNDER as a slow-burning fusion of R&B, soul, and electronic textures, while this latest interpretation brings its initial energy back to the forefront.

Driven by shimmering synths, punchy guitars, and an infectious funky groove, “STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM” feels both familiar and distinctly new. Rather than functioning as a conventional remix, the track uncovers the version that existed before the song evolved into the form heard on SUNDER.

“Funny thing is, STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM is actually how the song was born,” JVLY explains. “When I first laid down those Juno chords, and the almost Daft Punk kind of guitars, they were living at this exact tempo. I ended up stripping everything back into that half-time, R&B soul groove for the original that you hear in SUNDER, where I found the pocket for the vocal, but I never forgot the energy of that original demo. I guess it turned out that this version was meant to wait, because it fits perfectly with what the B-Side of the record eventually became, which is like a parallel universe of SUNDER.”

The release provides another perspective on JVLY‘s approach to songwriting and production, showing how a single idea can evolve into dramatically different forms without losing its original character. The shimmering synth work and guitar-driven groove of “STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM” reveal a more energetic side of the track, contrasting with the restrained R&B atmosphere of its SUNDER counterpart.

As another chapter in the SUNDERLUXE story, STILL DROWNING IN MY ROOM demonstrates JVLY‘s instinct for reshaping familiar ideas while preserving the emotional core that made them resonate in the first place. The track offers listeners a rare look at the road a song can travel before reaching its final destination—and suggests that SUNDERLUXE will explore that creative process even further.
