Twice Grammy-nominated, Mercury Prize and BRIT Award-winning artist Arlo Parks continues to explore the possibilities of her critically acclaimed album Ambiguous Desire with a new remix of “Heaven” from longtime friend and Canadian electronic pioneer Jacques Greene.
The Montreal-born DJ and producer has spent the past decade carving out a distinctive space within house music, earning a reputation for productions that balance club functionality with atmospheric detail. His rework of “Heaven” follows that approach, transforming one of the standout tracks from Parks’ latest album into a shimmering, emotionally charged club cut built around warm house grooves, subtle rhythmic movement, and a touch of minimal nostalgia.
Rather than radically reshape the original, Greene preserves the emotional core of “Heaven” while drawing out an energy that was already present in the song.
“After talking to Arlo at length about her headspace while making her album and poking my head in during some of the sessions – I knew we were on the same wavelength. I didn’t want to reinvent this song, but rather awaken and unleash an energy that already existed within it. A lil flash and pomp but honestly, it’s all her radiance,” Jacques Greene says.
The remix arrives shortly after Arlo Parks shared a new version of “Floette” featuring London-based rapper, poet, and producer John Glacier. The collaboration offered another reinterpretation of the album’s material while reinforcing the spirit of creative experimentation that has defined this period of Parks’ career.
Released in April through Transgressive, Ambiguous Desire was created with producer Baird, known for his work with Brockhampton and Kevin Abstract, with additional production from longtime collaborator Paul Epworth, Buddy Ross, and Andrew Sarlo. The album has since appeared on Billboard and Rough Trade’s Albums of the Year So Far lists, while receiving widespread critical acclaim.
Classic Pop called the project “her ultimate statement,” while Rolling Stone UK praised it as her “most versatile work yet.” Pitchfork described Parks as being at her best, with Uncut calling the record “frequently wonderful” and DIY highlighting it as her most vividly realized and affecting work to date.
The album’s sound is deeply connected to the nocturnal environments that inspired it. From Midnight Lovers in Los Angeles and the K Bridge in Greenpoint to Venue MOT in London, Parks immersed herself in club spaces while developing the record, drawing inspiration from the dancefloor and the communities surrounding it.
Over the past two years, that immersion led Parks toward the queer hedonism of New York’s Paradise Garage, the darker British sounds of The Streets and Burial, the synth-driven catharsis of LCD Soundsystem, and the rooted house grooves of Theo Parrish. Instead of relying primarily on live-band sessions, she incorporated modular synthesizers, Ableton plugins, and samplers to capture the restless energy of the spaces that shaped the album.
“I danced more than ever as I made this record, I made more friends than ever too, found myself in the weird underbelly of New York juke nights, unleashed, laughed and laughed and laughed. This record has desire at its center. Desire is a life force, it’s a wanting, a yearning, a momentum – we are all alive because there is something or someone we want – desire is an engine. But it is also mysterious, tangled, random, enlightening and HUMAN,” Arlo Parks explains.
Alongside “Heaven,” Ambiguous Desire features the singles “Get Go” and “2SIDED,” as well as focus track “Beams.” The album’s rollout has brought Parks to Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Later… with Jools Holland, while earning playlist support from BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio 1.
She has also taken over the airwaves at NTS Radio in London and KCRW in Los Angeles, hosting her own shows centered around club music and current favorites and offering a glimpse into the sounds influencing this chapter of her work.
Since emerging with her distinctive combination of vivid lyricism and expressive vocals, Parks has established herself as one of the most acclaimed artists of her generation. Her accolades include two Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album, the Mercury Music Prize for her 2021 Gold-certified debut album Collapsed in Sunbeams, and a BRIT Award for Breakthrough Artist. She has also received a nomination at the Ivor Novello Awards.
A poet as well as a musician, Parks followed her previous album My Soft Machine with The Magic Border, her first published book, featuring 20 new poems, exclusive photography by Daniyel Lowden, and lyrics from My Soft Machine.
Her work has also extended into major collaborations, including a writing credit on Beyoncé’s Grammy-winning album Cowboy Carter. Parks has performed at Glastonbury and Coachella, opened for Billie Eilish and Harry Styles, and toured internationally as a headliner. Following My Soft Machine, she also appeared on NPR Tiny Desk, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
With Jacques Greene’s “Heaven” remix, the world of Ambiguous Desire continues to expand into the club space that helped inspire it. Rather than simply revisiting the album, Parks and her collaborators are revealing new dimensions within its songs, allowing the emotional and rhythmic core of the project to keep evolving.
