Ministry of Sound Launches ‘Boxed In’ to Discover the Next Generation of DJ Talent

Ministry of Sound is opening the door for emerging DJs with the launch of Boxed In, an innovative live-streamed competition designed to spotlight the next wave of electronic music talent. Taking place on September 13 and broadcast live on Twitch, the competition will unfold inside The Box, the newly renovated main room of the legendary London nightclub, giving aspiring artists the opportunity to perform on one of dance music’s most iconic stages.

Unlike traditional DJ competitions, Boxed In is built to test far more than technical mixing skills. Over the course of a 12-hour live stream, six emerging DJs will compete in a series of challenges that evaluate endurance, booth etiquette, crowd management, musical knowledge, and performance under pressure. Throughout the event, six established DJs will mentor the contestants, offering guidance while helping shape the competition.

Adding another layer of interactivity, the audience will play a central role in determining the outcome. Viewers watching live on Twitch will influence challenges through real-time reactions and live voting, making the global electronic music community an active participant in the competition rather than simply spectators.

The stakes extend well beyond the competition itself. The winning DJ will earn a coveted Ministry of Sound residency featuring both club appearances and international performances, alongside an artist development package valued at more than £25,000. The prize includes professional DJ equipment, studio time, and career development resources designed to help launch the winner’s career.

Guiding this year’s competitors is an accomplished lineup of mentors representing multiple generations and styles of electronic music. The panel includes Mak10, Sam Divine, G33 of Girls Don’t Sync, Fish 56 Octagon, Jakkob, and Sian Owen. Together, the six artists bring extensive industry experience and collectively reach millions of followers across social media, offering invaluable insight to the competition’s finalists.

Explaining the vision behind the project, Caitlin McAllister, Managing Director of Ministry of Sound, said:

“Ministry of Sound has always been about championing great new talent, and Boxed In is our way of doing that for a new generation of DJs. There are so many brilliant artists out there who just need the chance to be seen. We wanted to create something that gives them a real platform, puts them in front of a global audience and lets them show what they’re capable of. We’re excited to see who steps up, and hopefully play a part in launching the career of the next big name in dance music.”

Applications are now open for aspiring competitors. Entrants must submit a 60-second video explaining why they deserve a place in the competition, along with a 15-minute DJ mix uploaded to SoundCloud. From the applicant pool, 30 DJs will be shortlisted before the mentors begin an elimination process, ultimately selecting one artist each to mentor throughout the live competition.

The launch of Boxed In comes in response to the growing challenges facing emerging DJs. While electronic music continues to thrive on fresh talent and innovation, opportunities to break into the industry have become increasingly limited. By combining mentorship, live performance, and audience participation, Ministry of Sound aims to create a highly visible platform that connects undiscovered artists with fans around the world.

With its blend of competitive performance, industry mentorship, and interactive live streaming, Boxed In represents a fresh approach to artist development. More than a DJ contest, it reflects Ministry of Sound’s longstanding commitment to nurturing the future of electronic music and providing the next generation of talent with a genuine pathway to the global stage.

To apply, submit a 60-second video and a 15-minute SoundCloud mix at Boxed In.
