Galantis, the electronic music project of Christian Karlsson, has unveiled his latest single, “Do You Mind,” alongside the announcement of his forthcoming EP, The Devil’s Tax Return: Volume 1, arriving October 16 via Counter Records.
The new release marks the second chapter in Galantis’ latest creative era following May’s “Stay Alive” and offers another glimpse into a project centered on reimagining songs that have left a lasting impact on Karlsson’s musical journey.
At the heart of “Do You Mind” is a thoughtful reinterpretation of Paleface featuring Kyla’s 2007 UK bassline and R&B classic. The song first gained widespread recognition through Crazy Cousinz’s influential 2009 remix before reaching an even larger global audience when it formed the foundation of Drake’s chart-topping 2016 hit “One Dance.” Rather than simply updating a beloved record, Karlsson approaches the track with reverence, preserving the emotional weight of Kyla’s unforgettable vocal while surrounding it with fresh, contemporary production.
“Some records feel untouchable because they already captured a moment so perfectly. ‘Do You Mind’ is one of those tracks,” Christian “Bloodshy” Karlsson explains. “Instead of trying to completely reinvent it, I wanted to celebrate what made it so special while giving it a new life. It’s a record I’ve loved for years and I like the idea of taking care of the music that we already know and love. I want my kids and their generation to know these songs. It’s important not to forget all the beauty in music that we’ve had.”
That philosophy extends throughout The Devil’s Tax Return: Volume 1. The EP’s title playfully acknowledges the balance between honoring familiar music while creating something entirely new. Beyond “Do You Mind” and “Stay Alive,” the project features reinterpretations of songs by artists including Frankie Valli, The Killers, Feist, and The War on Drugs—records that helped shape Karlsson’s artistic identity during the formative years of Miike Snow.
Long before achieving worldwide success with Galantis, Christian Karlsson built an extraordinary career as one-half of the acclaimed songwriting and production duo Bloodshy & Avant, alongside Pontus Winnberg. Together, they crafted iconic pop records including Britney Spears’ GRAMMY-winning “Toxic,” as well as “Piece of Me” and “Radar,” while also producing for artists such as Madonna and Katy Perry. Those experiences, combined with the creative freedom found through Miike Snow, continue to inform the fearless musical approach that defines this latest project.
Rather than treating these songs as straightforward covers, Karlsson strips each one back to its emotional foundation before rebuilding it through his own creative lens. The result is a collection that celebrates timeless songwriting while embracing the innovation that has defined his career for more than two decades.
The announcement follows an active stretch of live performances for Galantis, including standout appearances at Electric Forest and the San Francisco edition of MIDSOMMAR, his immersive event celebrating friendship, renewal, and community. The celebration continues throughout the summer with additional MIDSOMMAR events in Chicago and New York City, alongside festival performances at DJ World Festival in Japan, Veld Music Festival in Canada, and additional headline dates across North America.
With “Do You Mind,” Galantis once again demonstrates his ability to bridge nostalgia and innovation, honoring dance music’s rich history while creating something unmistakably his own. As anticipation builds for The Devil’s Tax Return: Volume 1, Christian Karlsson continues to prove that the most enduring records are often the ones willing to take creative risks.
