2ŁØT continue building anticipation for their sophomore album RE/SOLVE with the release of “Iris,” an uplifting and deeply collaborative new single arriving ahead of the album’s July 31 release. Featuring GRAMMY Award-winning guitarist Eric Krasno, along with horn performances from Ben Bohorquez and Evan Weiss of acclaimed funk-jazz collective The Funky Knuckles, the track showcases the band’s genre-defying approach by blending soulful songwriting, infectious grooves, and world-class musicianship.
Anchored by a warm rhythmic pulse, shimmering brass arrangements, and Eric Krasno‘s signature wah-infused guitar work, “Iris” explores themes of resilience, personal growth, and self-discovery. At its emotional core is a simple yet powerful affirmation—”Iris, you know how beautiful you are”—a reminder that recognizing one’s own worth can often be the hardest journey of all.
For bassist Robert Trusko, that lyric became the foundation of the song’s message.
“To me, the song’s meaning is in the line, ‘Iris, you know how beautiful you are,'” says Trusko. “It’s this idea of self-discovery and self-reflection, and learning your own potential after not knowing your own value or love.”
“Iris” first came to life during a week-long songwriting retreat at Matt Sorum‘s Good Noise Studio in Palm Springs, where the band embraced spontaneous collaboration by rotating through different creative pairings. Robert Trusko and drummer Omar Jahwar II initially crafted the groove before vocalist Rudy Love Jr. transformed the track after hearing an experimental tempo shift inspired by legendary producer J Dilla.
“We were clowning around pretty hard,” recalls Trusko. “When Rudy heard the switch-up, he disappeared into the other room and came back with a verse almost immediately. That’s when we knew we had something.”
As the production evolved, an impressive roster of collaborators helped elevate the song. Seven-time GRAMMY Award winner Robert “Sput” Searight produced Omar Jahwar II‘s drum performance, while Eric Krasno added the soulful guitar work that gives the track much of its distinctive character.
“We sent this one to Eric Krasno, and he came back with some really cool, interesting ideas,” says Trusko. “He brought out more of the funk elements and some blues influences over the switch-up.”
Krasno was equally enthusiastic about joining the project.
“It was a joy to get on this track with the 2ŁØT crew,” says Eric Krasno. “I love what they do, and I connected with ‘Iris’ right away. The way they blend genres feels completely natural and creates a sound that’s uniquely their own. I was honored to be a part of it.”
Adding another layer of musical depth, Ben Bohorquez and Evan Weiss of The Funky Knuckles contribute vibrant saxophone and trumpet arrangements that enrich the song’s melodic hooks while strengthening its jazz and funk influences.
“Iris” also expands the growing list of high-profile collaborations featured throughout RE/SOLVE. The upcoming album includes appearances from Jon Batiste, Robert Randolph, Eric Krasno, Elise Trouw, Cameron McCloud of Cure For Paranoia, Frank Moka, Mariel Jacoda, and more, reflecting 2ŁØT‘s commitment to uniting artists from across musical genres while maintaining their own unmistakable identity.
Conceptually, RE/SOLVE marks an evolution from the band’s previous album, Entropy. While the earlier project examined humanity’s struggle against disorder, the new record turns inward, exploring what the band describes as the “Second Hero’s Journey”—the quieter process of rebuilding identity after life’s greatest battles have already been fought.
“The aim is to mythologize the cyclical process of self-reflection, transformation, and self-actualization through a Campbellian archetypal lens,” explains vocalist Rudy Love Jr.. “The songs are specifically written and ordered to tell a story that takes the listener on this adventure with us.”
Over the past year, 2ŁØT have continued expanding their creative reach through collaborations with Aloe Blacc, Steve Aoki, Paul Oakenfold, Albert Harvey, and Michael Kang of The String Cheese Incident, while earning multiple dance chart successes and appearing at festivals including Treefort and Breakaway. Their ability to seamlessly fuse live improvisation with electronic music, soul, funk, hip-hop, and jam-band influences has established them as one of the most innovative acts in the modern electronic landscape.
With RE/SOLVE, 2ŁØT further refine their signature Electronic Jam Music sound, pairing adventurous production with thoughtful songwriting and an impressive lineup of collaborators. “Iris” stands as one of the album’s brightest moments—a heartfelt celebration of resilience, community, and discovering the beauty within ourselves.
