2ŁØT continue unfolding the emotional narrative behind their forthcoming album RE/SOLVE with the release of “I Hurt Myself Again,” a haunting and deeply introspective new single arriving ahead of the record’s July 31 release date. Following previous singles “Favorite Star,” “Come Together,” and “Tread,” the latest release pushes further into the album’s evolving themes of memory, identity, emotional reconstruction, and the shifting nature of self-perception over time.
Written and led vocally by bassist Robert Trusko, the song emerged during a creative retreat at Good Noise founder Matt Sorum’s studio in Palm Springs in early 2025. Over the course of a week, the band immersed themselves in spontaneous recording sessions and collaborative experimentation, allowing ideas to evolve organically. What began as Trusko quietly looping a simple two-chord guitar progression alone in the tracking room slowly transformed into one of the album’s most emotionally layered compositions.
Partially inspired by the surreal atmosphere of Palm Springs itself — a place where vast beauty and open skies coexist alongside constant reminders of impermanence — “I Hurt Myself Again” explores the unsettling realization that emotions once believed to be absolute may reveal themselves differently with time and distance. Rather than offering straightforward closure, the song leans heavily into ambiguity, allowing conflicting feelings and perspectives to coexist without resolution.
Built around moody instrumentation, restrained momentum, and a lingering emotional weight, the track captures the strange disorientation of revisiting personal experiences through entirely different emotional lenses years later. Atmospheric textures and repetition carry just as much significance as the lyrics themselves, reinforcing the album’s broader trust in emotion over explanation.
The song’s emotional depth is amplified through an ambitious group of collaborators. Cameron McCloud of Cure for Paranoia, fresh off winning the 2026 NPR Tiny Desk Contest, contributes a striking guest verse rooted in reflection and personal loss. Meanwhile, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Elise Trouw, following her recent Diary of Elon Lust tour, adds a powerful counterpoint to the track through her expressive vocal performance, reframing Trusko’s lyrics through an entirely different emotional perspective.
Further elevating the composition is a sweeping orchestral arrangement from composer Kyle Gordon, recorded alongside the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, while production contributions from GRAMMY-winning drummer Robert “Sput” Searight and mixing by Chris Godbey help give the song its expansive cinematic atmosphere.
“There was this feeling throughout the process that the song was constantly revealing new layers of itself,” said Trusko. “It started from a really personal place, but once everyone began adding their parts — Cameron, Elise, the strings, the band — it became something much bigger than my original perspective. The song is really about how feelings change shape over time, and how sometimes you don’t fully understand an experience until you’re far away from it.”
“I Hurt Myself Again” continues establishing the emotional foundation of RE/SOLVE, 2ŁØT’s second full-length album and a more introspective counterpart to their debut, Entropy. While Entropy confronted chaos directly, RE/SOLVE turns inward, focusing on the quieter emotional aftermath that follows survival — identity shifts, self-reflection, and the difficult process of rebuilding.
“The aim is to mythologize the cyclical process of self-reflection, transformation, and self-actualization through a Campbellian archetypal lens,” shared vocalist Rudy Love Jr. “The songs are specifically written and ordered to tell a story that takes the listener on this adventure with us.”
Over the past year, 2ŁØT have continued expanding their reach through collaborations with artists including Aloe Blacc, Steve Aoki, Paul Oakenfold, and Albert Harvey, while simultaneously building a reputation for immersive live performances blending improvisation, cinematic visuals, and genre-fluid musicianship. Their performances at events like Treefort Music Fest and venues such as The Peppermint Club in Los Angeles have further established the group as a project capable of moving seamlessly between live-band environments, electronic music spaces, and festival stages.
With RE/SOLVE, 2ŁØT appear fully committed to crafting a cohesive album experience rooted in emotional nuance and storytelling. “I Hurt Myself Again” stands as one of the project’s most vulnerable moments so far — a slow-burning meditation on memory, grief, and the evolving ways people come to understand themselves over time.
