Zsela Opens A New Chapter With Kinda Guy

Zsela is stepping into a new creative chapter with the release of her latest single, “Kinda Guy.” The Brooklyn-born, Los Angeles-based artist brings together her atmospheric vocals and genre-blurring approach on the new track, co-produced with Zack Sekoff and co-written alongside Sekoff and Will Westerman.

On “Kinda Guy,” Zsela explores the complicated intensity that comes with forming a deep connection with another person. Her vaporous vocals move through the uncertainty and self-discovery that can accompany trying to understand someone else, giving the track an intimate quality while maintaining the distinctive sound she has developed throughout her career.

The new single will also receive a music video directed by Ethan Skaates and Zsela, arriving this Friday. The visual finds Zsela manifesting a party of her own inside a dusty indoor horse arena, adding another surreal dimension to the world surrounding the new track.

In Zsela’s own words, the single is “A lil somethin’ to grab your belt loops to… if you’re that kinda guy.”

The release marks another step forward for an artist whose creative work has consistently moved beyond traditional boundaries. Over the early stages of her career, Zsela has established herself as a vocalist, producer, composer, and performance artist, developing a sound that draws from both R&B and folk.

Those influences first came together on her introductory EP Ache of Victory, released in 2020, before expanding across her acclaimed 2024 debut album Big For You. Her work has earned praise from The New York Times, Vogue, Pitchfork, and CULTURED, while her multidisciplinary performances have taken her to some of the most notable cultural spaces in New York and Los Angeles.

Her performance history includes appearances at Carnegie Hall, the Natural History Museums of New York & Los Angeles, The Ford, and MoMA PS1. She has also continued to explore music through more experimental formats, including composing a sound piece for Olivier Berggruen’s Seven Heavenly Senses exhibit alongside Daniel Aged and Taul Katz.

That spirit of collaboration continues to play an important role in Zsela’s creative world. Her musical community includes Andrew Aged, Daniel Aged, Zack Sekoff, Casey MQ, Nick Hakim, Dijon, and others, reflecting the wide range of artists surrounding her work.

With “Kinda Guy,” Zsela offers an early glimpse into what comes next. The single combines her hazy vocal presence, collaborative instincts, and interest in pushing across artistic boundaries while introducing a new era that promises to be just as multidimensional as everything that came before it. Welcome to her party.
