Legendary UK producer Zdot, known for his groundbreaking work with artists like Stormzy, Bugzy Malone, and Krept & Konan, teams up with Leeds rapper JC Stormz for their first release of 2025. Their highly anticipated single, ‘Time Or Favours’, drops on January 31st via Bankroll Records, ushering in a fresh chapter in their evolving sound.
Having previously collaborated on JC’s Papes EP last year, which delved into drum ‘n’ bass, the duo takes a bold step into house music on this new track. Zdot’s production is marked by subtle chord stabs, a driving bassline, and shuffling 4×4 house drums, setting the perfect backdrop for JC’s raw lyrics. JC Stormz raps about building from the ground up, staying patient, and making calculated moves. His infectious chorus, “I wanna do all the things outrageous… I ain’t giving out time or favours,” is already shaping up to be a memorable earworm.
“This track encapsulates where I am right now both musically and personally,” says JC Stormz. He describes ‘Time Or Favours’ as a fusion of house and rap, delivering an energy that is both fresh and raw. The track reflects the hustle, grind, and strategic decision-making that define his journey, with lines like “I open the board and I’m moving pieces” highlighting the thoughtfulness behind his ambition.
For Zdot, this new direction feels unique: “We’ve focused on how the music makes the listener feel, mixing emotive chords and riffs with house beats and catchy raps. It’s a sound we’ll be on a journey with for a long time.”
JC Stormz adds that the fusion of house and rap was a deliberate choice, aiming to create a track that energizes both the body and the mind. “It’s a perfect balance between high-energy motivation and thoughtful reflection,” he says.
A music video for the track, directed by acclaimed LA filmmaker Thor Wixom (known for his work with Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Chris Brown, and Katy Perry), is set to follow the release in February. Wixom’s work has amassed over seven billion views, ensuring this visual will add another layer of excitement to the release.
