Belgian-Moroccan artist and producer Zaatar continues to push the boundaries between electronic music and post-punk with “Bahnsteigkante,” a new single featured on INHALE Vol. 2, the compilation series from Breathing Records. Combining raw rock percussion with an intentionally electro-styled vocoder, the track highlights the unconventional production approach that has helped establish Zaatar as an emerging name across underground club culture.

Based in France, Zaatar works at the intersection of EBM, new beat, and post-punk, drawing on the sounds and aesthetics of earlier underground movements while giving them a contemporary edge. Her productions balance rough textures with precise arrangements, creating a recognizable style built for the dancefloor. On “Bahnsteigkante,” that approach takes shape through the contrast between hard-hitting percussion and electronically processed vocals, bringing rock energy into an electronic framework.

The track began as an experiment in combining rock and electronic music. Rather than smoothing out the differences between the two, Zaatar leans into their contrasting qualities, using the vocoder and forceful percussion to create a deliberately hybrid sound. The result reflects her broader interest in bringing the intensity and presence of live performance into club environments.

Her rise gained momentum through Ritmo Fatale, the French label that released her track “Abiad Al Layali.” The single helped introduce her sound to a wider international audience, opening the door to further releases that have strengthened her position within the underground electronic scene. Tracks including “Mortal Come Back,” “Zankat Mimosa,” and “Leaving For The Sky” showcase her dancefloor-focused production, while her 2025 EP, The Sound of Z, paid tribute to the musical influences behind her distinctive sound.

Beyond the studio, Zaatar has developed a live presence that connects the energy of concerts with the immersive atmosphere of club culture. Her performances have taken her to venues including La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris, Macadam in Nantes, Le Sucre in Lyon, Fuse in Brussels, and Else and Renate in Berlin. She has also appeared at festivals such as Positive Education, Montreux Jazz Festival, Paléo Festival, and Grauzone Festival, an important gathering for artists working across EBM and post-punk.

Her international performances have extended beyond Europe to Mexico, reflecting the growing reach of her sound across different underground scenes. Rather than treating electronic music and live performance as separate worlds, Zaatar uses her sets to bring their respective aesthetics together, creating an experience that draws on the physical intensity of both.

In 2025, she expanded that vision by launching Dead-Or-Alive?, her own event series dedicated to EBM and post-punk. Designed as a meeting point between live concerts and club culture, the project provides another outlet for the sounds and artistic perspectives that shape her work.

Recognition has followed, with DJ Mag France naming Zaatar among its artists to watch in 2026. The acknowledgment comes as she continues to develop her sound through new productions, international performances, and events that connect artists and audiences around underground electronic music.

With “Bahnsteigkante,” Zaatar brings these influences together in a track built around contrast, experimentation, and dancefloor impact. Its place on INHALE Vol. 2 offers another look at an artist exploring the space between electronic production and the raw energy of rock, while continuing to shape a sound that draws from the past without remaining confined by it.
