Rising from the shadows once more, anonymous artist X1-Y2 has officially dropped his debut solo EP, Caustics, out now via HypnoVizion. Following the acclaimed NOVUS collaboration with Rezz, this bold three-track offering signals a powerful evolution in X1-Y2’s genre-defying sound.
A meticulously crafted dive into tension, distortion, and mechanical energy, Caustics fuses gritty basslines with warped, hand-sourced samples and percussive blasts that hit with precision. From the glitch-laced aggression of “VECTOR” to the eerie, cinematic tension of “ROTGB,” and the raw, title-defining chaos of “CAUSTICS,” the EP creates a sensory experience that’s both unsettling and hypnotic.
“With this EP I wanted to work around the concept of refraction and light caustics, designing sounds around that theme. Inspired by industrial tonalities mixed with bass heavy rhythms and distortion, created through multiple glass hitting recordings made through months. It also serves as a starting point for what I’m creating next,” shares X1-Y2.
X1-Y2 is the anonymous newcomer who has sent shockwaves through the bass world. Rezz first introduced fans to X1-Y2 last year with their collaborative rework of ‘Edge’ before teaming up for their forward-thinking four-track NOVUS EP. X1-Y2 made his solo debut on HypnoVizion with ‘SENSE‘, before joining FISE earlier this year for ‘STATIC’.
Now with Caustics, X1-Y2 has unveiled his clearest artistic vision to date—one defined by conceptual depth, sonic experimentation, and a fiercely independent sound. It’s a statement release that not only reinforces his status as one of bass music’s most elusive rising names but also lays the groundwork for what’s to come.
