Wooli Just Dropped “Wackman” — Prepare to Break Your Neck

Wooli cemented himself as one of my favorite dubstep producers years ago when I went through his top songs on Spotify and was met with not just the heavy neck-breaking songs that start the pits at Lost Lands, but also some of the most beautiful melodic songs in the scene. Every time I see there is a new Wooli release, I get excited because there is no telling where on the dubstep spectrum the song will land. Is it going to be something that has me headbanging at a stop light, or is it going to be something beautiful and melodic that makes me contemplate texting my ex?

The process of seeing a new Wooli release and getting excited about what part of the genre it would represent happened again at the start of August when he released his new song, Wackman. I’m happy to say this lands firmly on the heavy side of Wooli’s releases.

The song wastes no time in the introduction, quickly building up into the familiar “Waka-Waka” sounds from the arcade game Pac-Man. After a voice yells “Wackman,” those sounds quickly drop into a heavy, funky drop that gets your whole body wobbling to the beat. As soon as that drop is over, the song immediately begins building up into the next drop. The second drop starts with Wooli’s signature “drop it” sample before slamming you with a heavier, harder-hitting drop than the first that still manages to keep that funky feel.

With a short track time of 2 minutes and 12 seconds, this isn’t a long song consisting of delicate or well-thought-out build-ups and transitions, but what is here are two amazing drops that will mix well into any of Wooli’s live shows. Personally, I can’t wait to break my neck to either of these drops when Wooli headlines Aftershock at Rawhide Event Center in Chandler, AZ on August 30th. Get your tickets and meet me there!
