My Woman Crush Wednesday pick is an absolute phenom.
A producer, DJ, radio host, and curator of the LA music scene, Anna Lunoe is beyond multi-talented. She has worked with the likes of Flume, Chris Lake, What So Not, Born Dirty and numerous other household names in electronic music. The list of festivals that she’s played is equally impressive, including Coachella, Snowglobe, Lollapalooza, and FMF favorite, Electric Forest. In 2016, she became the first solo female act to play EDC’s mainstage (it only took them 20 years), so we’d say this #WCW is a bona fide trailblazer.
In July of 2015, Anna helped launch Apple Music’s Beats1 platform with her weekly HYPERHOUSE show, which has quickly become a global sensation. It showcased new talent and music releases, interviews with artists, and live sets. After over 100 episodes across three successful years, Anna moved her show from Apple to her own HYPERHOUSE live stream.
As if conquering music wasn’t enough, in 2017, Anna also became a mother. She managed touring and performing all the way through her pregnancy, culminating headlining with her own stage at HARD Summer’s 10th Anniversary. As a fellow mom with a penchant for starting and taking on as many creative projects as I can handle, I respect the hustle.
All of that aside, there’s one thing that I love above all else about Anna Lunoe. She is an absolute BEAST on stage. Mixing her signature blend of up-tempo house, bass and techno, she doesn’t stop moving during her entire set. We’ve all seen DJs who stand behind the turntables like they are glued to the floor. It’s a buzzkill and makes it hard to stay excited about the music. Anna Lunoe is the polar opposite. When I caught her performance at Echostage in DC a few months ago, I couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear watching her. Her energy is infectious, her vibe is positive, and she throws one hell of a party.
