Insomniac Records proudly unveils “Matador,” the hypnotic new single from rising Dominican-Puerto Rican producer Wakyin and Colombian Grammy-nominated artist Vibarco. Out now, this striking track dives into the emotional depths of melodic house and techno, fusing cutting-edge electronic production with a powerful Latin soul.
Following the streaming success of his afro house collaboration “Closer” with Bantu—which has racked up over 2.2 million streams—“Matador” marks Wakyin’s highly anticipated return to Insomniac Records. On this sophomore label release, he pushes deeper into his signature blend of rhythm-driven global house music, infused with rich cultural storytelling that reflects his Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage.
“Matador” entrances with shimmering progressive house synths, a thumping low end, and emotional layers that shift between ethereal and gritty. Vibarco’s lush Spanish-language vocals ride over celestial choir harmonies, only to dive headfirst into a brooding, bass-fueled drop filled with growling fills and pounding ostinato piano rhythms. The result is a dark and cinematic journey that blurs lines between the dancefloor and the dramatic.
“I found this vocal and just knew I had to flip it,” says Wakyin. “It was a bit different before, with a slower tempo, but I spiced it up a little, and I love the final product. Or as the streets say, ‘En la calle le dicen el matador.’”
Born Christian Rivera-Joaquin, Wakyin channels the infectious grooves of merengue, bachata, and salsa into his high-octane sets and productions. His unique sound has taken him from the vibrant streets of the Caribbean to stages across the globe, including EDC Mexico, Superior Ingredients Roof in New York, and upcoming performances at The Ground Miami (MMW), KOKO London, and an open-air summer event in Queens.
Vibarco, a three-time ASCAP award-winning songwriter, brings unmatched lyrical depth and raw emotion to the collaboration. Known for penning hits for Maluma, Shakira, Anitta, and Ca7triel, his performance on “Matador” adds a commanding vocal presence that amplifies the track’s dynamic tension.
With “Matador,” Wakyin and Vibarco don’t just deliver a song—they create a fully immersive experience rooted in cultural pride, emotional resonance, and dancefloor energy.
