This year I have made a point to look out for the females that are on the rise and gaining recognition in our industry. VNSSA is a name I constantly see on festival bills and local shows alike. This Newport Beach native recently relocated to Los Angeles and seems to be enjoying it in La La Land. Although her passion for music and desire to DJ started at an early age, she wasn’t provided the opportunity to practice until about five years ago. Prior to finally getting her hands on the turntables she had asked for at the age of 12, Vanessa Barnes drummed along in an indie rock band. She continued to play local shows and house parties.
Early in 2018 is when the ball started rolling for this young lady. Her first single debuted on House of Hustle Records filling numerous EPs on labels like Late Night Munchies, Psycho Disco, Tons & Tons, and many more. Her music may tend to favor the dark side however, her live sets are everything House and Techno music could ask for. VNSSA has taken 2019 by storm with her live performances. Starting out the year in the Pacific Northwest, she has made her way around to up and coming festivals like Vincent Rotella’s new company United By Love Events’s St Patrick’s Day extravaganza Planet X hosted at Wisdome LA, to large festivals like Lightning in a Bottle and the final day of the grand EDC Las Vegas. Big kudos to her for all of those, which is part of why she lands this week’s #WomanCrushWednesday.
Going HARD in 2019
VNSSA is nowhere close to slowing down. This lady has a fully packed summer ahead of her, lucky us! Back in 2018 not only did her EP’s released she was given an epic surprise by Claude VonStroke. That’s right, the mastermind we all know and love of Dirtybird Records. While participating in a live chat Dirtybird hosts call, “Ask Me Anything” VNSSA asked VonStoke who was on his, Ones to Watch list. To her disbelief he responded with her name, later asking her if she would like to play the Dirtybird Campout West Coast. Later while playing Shipfam Island in Croatia together they solidified the deal.
Her career has been full of surprises and we can only hope they continue for her. If you happen to have missed her during LiB or EDC, don’t worry you’re in luck. The next big stages VNSSA will be taking on are HARD Summer and the 2019 edition of Dirtybird Campout West Coast in October. You have more time to plan for DBCO West Coast, however, HARD Summer is rapidly approaching as it takes place in August. If you haven’t purchased tickets, you can do so by clicking the lineup below. With all the amazing artists on the lineup, it’s sure to be a wild, and hot party! I hope to see you all there dancing to this beautiful lady’s beats! In the meantime, check out her Spotify!
